Illuminated door sill won't turn off
I just noticed that my illuminated door sill lights (at night) will stay ON when I exit my car, even after the interior lights turn OFF automatically like they should.
This situation has the potential to drain my battery so I need to find a fix. Anyone has seen this problem on an RX350 2016???? I also noticed that if I go back to my car, let say 1/2 hr later, I can see the sill lights are ON, then I open and close the driver's door...... all inside lights will turn ON and OFF including the sill lights!!!!! This is a strange problem as, in my mind, there is no real difference between the time I first exit my car and the time I go back and open + close the driver's door 1/2 hr later. Is there a special setup regarding illuminated door sill? Any help would be appreciated. |
There may be a problem with a door switch that thinks the door is open and so doesn't shut the circuit off.

I think that there is no special switch for the sill light. |
Maybe there is a glitch with the multiplex body control unit that can be fixed by disconnecting the battery for awhile. If that doesn't work then don't know maybe Techstream would allow you to troubleshoot.

Disconnecting the battery is something to consider, thank you for the tip. I will give it a try.
What is Techstream?? Thank you |
I have more testing to do but it looks like the problem may only be happening at night.
I just observed that the sill lights will always turn off when I exit my car during daytime. |

As a matter of fact I noticed a faint light coming from the passenger foot well and had to get closer to the driver’s window and look very close through the upper left side of the window to be able to partiality see the passenger’s sill light being ON. (By the way It’s really not obvious! I may have had that problem for a while and it was unnoticed!!!!) As of now I am trying to figure out what is happening as the problem has become intermittent. Searching for my problem on the web hasn’t offer any results. As per a previous suggestion I am planning to disconnect the battery to see if this makes a change. Disconnecting the sill lights is an other thing I am planning to do if I can’t find a solution. |
Weird!!!!!!
My wife took the car last evening and when she came back she made sure the sill lights were OFF before leaving the garage.
when I checked my car this morning I found the sill lights ON but at approximately 1/3 the usual brightness!!!!! I opened the door and the sill lights went full brightness, I closed the door and after the normal delay they went OFF. ???? |
Is there any chance that a well-lit garage (or wherever you park) makes you think the sill lights are on? I just went to check mine and they are VERY bright when on (I have the white ones that typically cane with thr RX350, though I own an RX450h which part # is the blue lighted ones).
Also, what position is the door position switch in on the overhead console? Screenshots below are from the 2019 manual... https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.clu...3e534f5608.png https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.clu...bf5a2f6235.png |

This is getting weirder!!!!
Here is the scoop........
About 3 hrs ago I went to see my car in the garage and ..... Surprise.....the sill lights are ON but dimmed (I I would say they are about 1/3 of their normal brightness) So I opened and close the driver's door....ALL interior lights went ON and went OFF after the normal delay. NB: I am not carrying my key for this experiment. Then 1 hr ago I went back to the garage and found the sill lights to be ON again and at 1/3 their normal brightness!!!!! how can that happen????? After more testing I can say it takes about 1/2 hr for my RX350 sill lights to magically come back ON at 1/3 their normal brightness. This is REALLY strange and I can't figure out what's happening. |

So what have you done to fix it? Disconnected the car battery to reset the system? Pull the ECU fuse to reset the system? Replaced the car battery? Re-Initialized the door switch locks? Changed the interior switch position to off? And see what happens? You might want to take it to the car to the dealership and get it fixed. |
