My local Toyota place had the OEM Toyota gear oil but they were charging a small fortune for it. I think that it was around $45/can. I found it cheaper online I think.
OP, can you do one for the transmission fluid? I just changed it on my 2012 Tacoma and it wasn’t difficult. I had to jump some OBD2 ports and open an overflow bolt when the trans reached operating temp. Anything similar on the Lexus?

Viktor did a transmission fluid drain and fill video. You can search here or just go to his YouTube channel which has all of his RX service videos
Did transfer case and rear diff today (car has 44K). I don't have a lift but I do have four car ramps and I needed every inch to clear the beer belly. Replaced fluid with Valvoline 75/90 full synthetic; in the squishy bags which are super convenient in dispensing the fluid. I added a short 3/8"ID clear tubing to the tip, then just squeeze the bag. As it empties, you can roll it up and turn it upside down as needed. Walmart has them for $12-$13 a bag, but I get the 3-pack from amazon since I use the same fluid in my Tacoma 4x4 (comes out to $11/qt). I used copper M17 crush washers for the drain plugs and re-used the fill-plug washers.
One thing to note: a little fluid came out of the transfer case fill-plug when I first removed it, but none came out of the diff, and it took more than came out.
Thanks for the vid Viktor.

Also, if you have an extra 15/16 socket laying around, consider grinding the open end about 2mm to take the beveled edge out. That way the socket bites more of the bolt head. I did this for my Tacoma and I thank Toyota/Lexus for keeping the same size heads. Also fits the ATF fill-bolt on our ES350. I do wonder why the diff has an Allen head versus a 24mm head. Why not keep them the same?!
can you tell me or show me the tools you use to get this out i have tried everything and i cant get this dam fill plug out
I used the exact tools used in the video shown in post #1 above. Used extensions to reach and a breaker bar for leverage. Came off very easily. To replace I just used socket without breaker bar since I could fit it in.
Should not be that tight....torque specs are relatively low. Has it been done previously?
I started watching his videos for RX and today his yt channel is wiped clean with nothing left!! Anyone knows whats up with that or has a link to his RX videos elsewhere and can share?

I hope that it is a temporary issue.
Love his videos and have used several for working on my RX. Hope that everything is OK and he is back up and running soon.
Really appreciate the time and effort that he put into making these videos for us.
I always thought it was risky recording videos at a dealership as an employee for personal gain. I'm presuming someone from corporate got wind and told him that he is violating some agreement he may have signed when he was first hired. @ViktorG Can you provide us any inside info?
