Default 2020 RX350 dead battery

Hi,

i purchased my RX350 in February. Due to pandemic and working from home, I do not drive it that much (I also own a second daily driver). My car has currently over 1,000 miles. I try to drive it once a week though. I drove it a week ago for about ten minutes. I wanted to go shopping yesterday; however, the car did not start. Fortunately I got good service from Lexus roadside assistance; they started the car but were surprised the battery was dead. I live in Calabasas, and we recently had a few “cold” nights (about 30-33F). I keep my car outside in covered area. I have never experienced issues like this, but I was reading about 2020 ES having similar problems. I will check with my Lexus dealer, but I also wanted to ask here whether this is normal. Thank you for your help.

Yes it is in YOUR case. Don't forget that there is power being constantly drawn from your battery to supply power to all the electronics which run even when the car is shut off.
In order to have the alternator charge the battery you'd have to take it for a 30 min run above 30mph at least once a week or else put a smart charger (tender) on it.

Thank you for your reply. I may just check the battery since my car is due for the first service I believe.

Have them check the whole charging system while there.

Many 2020 ES models have had bad batteries right out of the box. Remember NEW means Never Ever Worked. Perhaps the same is now true with the RX?

We call that a warm night in Wisconsin. That is definitely not normal although if my car sits for more than a month or so without driving I stick my battery charger / maintainer on it.

When I got my used 2016 rx350 that had a new battery installed, it died after a month of us having it. Although we did turn on the car everyday, it was just to move it from the driveway to the street so we can back out with another car. So, it didn’t recharge the battery. Also, these Lexus cars use a lot of battery before you charge it. From the smart key to the daytime running lights turning on.
