As probably already know, take it in empty so they have to remove less fuel from the tank. That will dramatically lower your odds of getting the car returned smelling of gasoline.

That is my plan. Since the 450h has to come out from the bottom side, there should be little to no risk of gas smell from interior though.

Plus, it helps out the boys when lowering the tank, it would be much lighter!

I just got the letter for my 2019 RXh. I am so not looking forward to have this done. The video ViktorG posted, that tech who did the work looked like a total pro, yet I still cringed when he essentially wiped his soiled gloves all over the interior pieces and the seats. I can't imagine how the interior will not have the smell of gasoline for a good long time. My car still smells like a new car 2yrs later, it will definitely not smell like that after this.

@OakvilleRX and @TonicGin mentioned couple of issues after the pump replacement. I suspect the fuel gauge issue might be related to the orientation of the pump assembly (at the 13:10 mark), and the car not starting might be related to not having transferred the spacer when reassembling (at the 10:35 mark).

Did you read my post? The 450h the pump must be removed after taking the tank out from underneath the car because batteries are in the way. There will be none of the interior removal this way and no way for gas to get inside your car. Call your dealer and verify if you like, I already did.

Well I got my 450h fuel pump and 20K service completed yesterday and it all went great! No need to worry about fuel level, they called me that my parts were in early and I had over 3/4 tank and they pump the tank and remove it on the 450 so this is a non intrusive fix as far as interior goes on the 450h.....confirmed. It appears I'm the first hybrid to report getting this done here, so I wanted to let others know not to worry or delay. They even topped off the tank for me and I got the exact same loaner I had a white 2021 450h LOL. I got a call and in 3 hours after open they had 20k service, fix slow leak in tire, Nav map update, and fuel pump complete.

Only noticed this thread today. Haven't received any notice for my '18 hybrid yet; but I did get the fuel pump replaced back in the spring when I went in for service and reported some thumping/cavitation sounds coming from the fuel tank area when it's under 1/4 tank left.

Can confirm no gas smell nor interior torn apart as they did the replacement from the outside. Hopefully when they did the replacement, they installed the newer pump model so I don't have to bring it in for the recall anymore.

All these problems ought to have been solved in the R & D dept.
I hope Lexus isn't going down the german cars path, where once they were known for the dependability and performance now only for their $$$$$

If I understand it correctly, this was not a design or R&D problem, it was a supplier quality problem. Which is not good either ....

We just purchased a certified pre-owned '17 RX350. If the VIN entered on Lexus Canada's website shows no outstanding campaigns, does that mean any recall services have already been done or should we go by Transport Canada's website and inquire with the dealer?

Inquire with the dealer, I have a 2017 and there were no outstanding campaigns on it yet when I went in for service they remapped my AT the 1st time and the 2nd time they changed the door locks, all under warranty.

I took my 17 RX450H to the dealer for it's 50k service and for the fuel pump recall. Unfortunately my wife filled the car last night and forgot about the fuel pump issue. When I dropped the car off, the dealer said they would have to reschedule the pump replacement until next week. They said to make sure and bring in the vehicle with 1/4 fuel or less. Not really a problem because the dealership is about 6 miles from my house.

You're lucky. My wife wouldn't have the faintest idea how to put gas in a car!

Wow, what a lame dealer that won't spend the extra 15 minutes to drain the tank? Mine said no problem with full tank, bring it in as they pump it dry anyways.
Guess it's best to call and ask first.
