RX 2017 350, Navi, Iphone 6S, Problem-- trying to get Waze to give instructions through the Radio. It only works if I switch to Media/Blue Tooth. If I do that I no longer have access to the radio, only the music on the Iphone or the player plugged into the USB.

I was told that it should play through the audio system and still allow me to hear the radio

Waze or Google maps are considered Media by the phone (that's why you've different volume control for navigation voice). Any car will not be able to mix Bluetooth media and FM media. Phone calls are treated differently, it can mix the phone call with your FM media source.

 

You have to change a setting in the Waze app. Go to Settings>Voice&Sound>Play sound via....change this to "Play as a Bluetooth phone call". You can then listen to other music sources and then when Waze gives a direction, your car will treat it as a phone call. After Waze is done talking, the car will revert back to whatever you were listening to. Only the Apple iOS versions of Waze and Google Maps can do this. There is no option like this in the Android version.
