i think you can listen to other audio source from the car, so siriusxm still works (you can change audio source using the little screen next to the odometer when the carplay is presenting on the big screen). Yeah I was playing music through the car’s bluetooth.

Wait so what "source" do you have to leave it in order to hear carplay or the andriod? Do you change the source to AUX? Or does the source need to be bluetooth audio?

Would love another video of how it starts up etc?

I’ll get another video for you later.

To hear music through the car’s speaker, after booting to carplay, you need to select bluetooth source on your car, and bluetooth output on your phone. On your phone, there will be 2 audio output: Auto Box and Lexus’ multimedia bluetooth. If you select Auto Box, music will play on the andoird box speaker. If you select lexus’ one, it will play through car’s speaker via bluetooth. That is for music.

For navigation sounds and siri, it can only play through the android box speaker (can’t make them to play car’s speaker).

For phone call, it works either way. When you pick up a call, most of the time it will play on car’s speaker. Sometimes it doesn’t, then on your phone, change output to the lexus’ bluetooth.

Choosing the AUX in Media is just a way to boot to carplay, after that it will stay in carplay and you can change to other source. Same for the Mode button, it just to boot to android, then you can change the audio source you would like. However, for some reasons, these two ways don’t work reliably for me. The only method that work reliably for me is to hold the hang up phone on steering wheel for 3 seconds and it will swtich to carplay.

question when your in Carplay what happens when you press the "Menu" button on the mouse? Does it go back to the Lexus info system? How can you switch to the lexus info system when you are in carplay or andriod?

here we go

to switch between carplay and lexus enform, press and hold hang up phone for 3 seconds.

the back button will act as back in carplay
the home button will go to the android’s home interface.
up and down, maps button won’t work in android/carplay

Confirmed, there is a setting to connect the android box bluetooth to the lexus bluetooth, so all the sounds will go through the car’s speaker.

there are some other options like that on aliexpress. However, I prefer and chose the android box option because it let me keep the car’s OEM display and all the OEM features/options.

the display replacement option in that link is good for people who have the smaller screen size. For 12.3” screen size, nahh

If you replace, most likely you need to figure out how to get to the OEM features/options/settings such as the backup camera, steering wheel control, using the knob, lexus vehicle settings, etc. I don't have it, so I'm not sure how hard or easy it is to do it. Also, the screen on RX 350 is placed kinda far away, so touch screen is not really safe while driving. If you want to switch back, you need to put the OEM display back in. It takes time.

For the android box, it's like just another computer that connects to the lexus display. Click a button to switch to android and back to lexus and vice versa.

quick question. does the device use an HD source if you plug in an iphone or does it take the HD source and downconvert it to RCA?

Thank!

I'm not sure what you meant. At least, I don't see any RCA connection in my setup. The iPhone connects to a carplay dongle (via my Anker USB Lightning cable) which in turn connects to the android box via USB, and the box connect to the display via a blue LVDS connector that uses the same technology as Lexus' OEM display connector. I guess it uses an HD source? or at least it uses all the pixels in my 12.3" display without scaling (the Lexus screen resolution is 1280x480 for my 2017 RX)? The seller's post says it's HD 1080p, but there is not enough pixels on Lexus display to show 1080p anyways, so it make no difference imo.
