Default Seat Quality Issue from a German RX

Hi Guys,
I am joining your brilliant Forum since I bought my first NX 300h 2 years ago. Lexus is a really rare brand in Germany, however after having driven BMW for over 30 years I got bored from their arrogant behaviour against clients.
I really fell in love with Lexus and their built quality.
However, I have learned that Lexus are not perfect cars either, but compared to German products they are really good made and brilliant engineered cars.
And if you see ca 250 Audis, 315 BMW, 450 Mercedes (all in Black or Silver) per day on the Autobahn, a Lexus is a very welcome exception.
Since May 2017 I own a brand-new RX 450h in Micablue color equipped with all available extras on the list.
Lovely piece of engineering, excellent hybrid technology and -thanks to the German Diesel Issue- one of the most accepted and sophisticated technology.
The problem, I am having with the car is the rear seat assembly. I have attached some pics of my rear seat arrangement. Both seats are moved electrically into the same position.
I would love to see some of your rear seat pictures because there are not too many RX on the road here in Germany to compare.
So far, Lexus is of the opinion, that my seats are ok.

Thanks and cheers,
Roland

It looks like something that could be fixed at the Lexus dealership. I will check mine today.

Welcome me to the forum.

Hi Roland, had a look at mine (Australian RX 350) seems the same, the two separate seats have a large gap. Not as noticeable on mine though as I have a black interior.

There also seems to be an alignment of the backrest issue. Looked at several RX with the cargo cover installed and the backrests don’t lineup straight with the bar. Brought it up during a service and dealer didn’t have a fix, but made a report. Hopefully more people report it as a problem and Lexus eventually fixes it.

Doesn't the center part come down on its own, somehow. The entire center part, not just the arm rest. Thought I saw something on that.

Yes, they are great in writing reports and promising that they will check ant take care of a problem. They do show minor performance in getting things done.

Mine is black leather, I never noticed it before. Very small compared to the one from flieger. I notice the shape of the side to be a bit curved, maybe to prevent rubbing between the two sections of back rest flipping back in upright position.

So I think it's by design.

Thank's for your support. if it's by design do you think it's acceptable for a luxury brand like Lexus claims to be?

I have a parchment interior like Roland's. The gap is there, although not quite as much. I did not notice this because I normally have the center arm rest down. I guess this is the price to be paid for the 60-40 split and for the ability to individually move the rear seats back and forth. The Acura MDX has a larger gap there, too, for much the same reason. Having written this, the gap could be more uniform and given better alignment for a more precise look.

At least I can't see it when I am facing forward in the driver's seat.

For your larger gap that you have (like the light seen in it from beind) I would say that your's needs fixing.

I would ask to compare with other cars in the lot with your dealer. They might see that your's is a manufacturing defect. One solution you can propose is to have it dissassembled and reassembled. It could be a misplaced spacer somewhere. It might not work, but costs man work to them. The other solution would be to have them put more material under the leather to increase the volume on the side...

Have the best of luck with this!

On my side my dealer is doing everuthing to fix my problem which is not resolved yet. Wainting for Lexus Engineers to look at it...

I guess Lexus buyers truly expect perfection as in the relentless pursuit. Didn't they change that slogan?
