Default Tailgate Door damage

Today I brought my 2016 RX 350 in for an ECU recall. I opened my trunk using the auto button and the door raised too high and hit my garage door while it was fully opened. I hit the close button and the door got stuck while going down. The logo on the door broke out and cracked. I talked to their manager and they said it's not lexus fault. The car was not defective and I need to fully pay to get it replace. He said it's my fault for not come out and manually open it and see the problem. How the heck do I know that this was going to happen. It's a Lexus. Do you think it's my fault and pay for it?

I drove out of my garage with my old 3rx rear door open. Thought it would fit, NOT. Did the same thing, scratches, small dent but the logo stayed intact. Sorry it happened, but I would think that Lexus can't be responsible unless the door open far beyond where it was suppose to. One of the first things I did with the 4rx was check the clearance and set it to a safe height when I got it home. Also adjusted the garage door to open to it's max. The garage door should be able to adjust past the frame.

The 4rx opens pretty high, probably higher than most residential doors. Once it hit your garage door, maybe closing the door again made it worse. Sorry, maybe they'll get you a new part for cost.

I wasn't drive while the door was open. Second, I never had this happened before. It normally open with good clearance. I didnt adjust or set anything, it was in factory setting. My garage was fully open, the door extended without me knowing.

I didn't mean to say you drove the car with the door open...I did that! Then it sounds like the tailgate did something strange. The tailgate will open past most garage doors, especially if you measure where the top of the tailgate would be if fully opened. You probably know that there are a number of settings for the height, maybe something changed after they did the ecu. I bet it reset past where you had it.

I think you are at fault unfortunately. It would be nice if the dealer could replace it as a courtesy. Ask a service rep that you think is nice.

You can open the door, and stop it to the height you want and long press the lock button I think. There is a label on the side that tells you how to do it. Also in the menu in the dashboard, there is also the height adjustment.

Sorry man!

When I came home with my car after having this recall performed, I happened to open the rear hatch while still in the driveway. I noticed that the hatch was opening further than I had previously set it. I readjusted it to its previous setting. If I had done as I normally do, I would have waited until I was in the garage to open the hatch, and would have sustained damage.
It appears to be not abnormal for the height adjustment to change while replacing the ECU. At the time, I was disappointed that the dealer did not alert me that the setting may have changed. Had damage occurred, I believe the dealer would have been liable to compensate me for the damage due to his lack of exercising due diligence by not providing this alert. There is no reason a reasonable person should know this. I would insist the dealer pay. I don't know what expense you are looking at, but I believe it would be a slam dunk in small claims court.

Yes, I think it's your fault and need to pay, if you want to get it fix.

I am sorry but would not expect the dealer to pay for this.

Did same thing on a 2105 RX350. Repair shop would not repair it, just replaced the entire door for $2000. Insurance $500 deductible was what I had to pay. No increase in insurance rate occurred. I also noted several changes in my 2016 RX350 settings after the recent TSB for transmission shifting was accomplished. Don't think the dealer knew where all my setting were and I felt it was my responsibility to check out my settings to insure they were where I wanted them. I think that if the battery is disconnected, your settings will revert to factory settings???

It seems clear to me that considering that most Lexus owners are not terribly tech savvy, that when something like an ECU reset is done, the dealer has the distinct responsibility to inform the customer, perhaps in writing, that prior settings may or will revert to original factory settings.

Default Help with rear door service

Greatings fellow 4rh Gen RX owners! I have a 2017 RX350 atomic silver base model with 20" wheels with brown interior. Someone left the hatch open and drove it into the garage and wiped out the rear door garnish trim. Any helpful advice how to get into the rear door to remove and replace the trim and where to buy a new trim piece? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
