Default upcoming RX-L (third row seat)

Does anybody have any new information on the upcoming RX-L? I haven't heard anything. Not even spy shots or rumors except back in March or so when Lexus confirmed that they would be making an RX with a 3rd row seat. Supposedly, it won't be renamed and will just add an L to end of the name.

Thought it was a China-only edition? Don't think we'll ever see the RX-L here in North America...

My guess is not before the 2018 model year, so I would suspect rumors and pictures to pick up over the next year.

Trademarked in the US.

Lexus has trademarked both the RX 350L and RX 450hL nameplates in the USA. This follows last week’s filing of the RX 350L nameplate in Europe.

Yeah, I agree. I also think they will sell very well and hurt MDX sales..

Yup, had the 3 row RX been available this past summer, we'd have one. This time around we needed a three row vehicle, so the RX was out.

Same boat here. We already have a 14' MDX, so we narrowed down to the Audi Q7 S-Line (most recent 2015 first gen) or a 2016 Lexus RX350 and the RX350 won our vote, but it was very close.

Back in 2005 we had the need for a 3rd row so I bought an MDX, same in 2009.. If a 3rd row RX been available probably one of those two MDX's would have been an RX. I have no complaints with the MDX, both were great. But a 3rd row RX would have got my attention.

Our 4RX is already about the same length of our 2014 MDX, so I wonder how much longer it will be (I hope not too much).

To get a feel for length and size, here's a sneak peak of the 2018 RX350L:

It's definitely going to the give the Audi Q7, Acura MDX, and Volvo XC90 a run for their money.

Wow, can you imagine how small that back row is going to be? No thanks.

Don't discount it just yet. It's nothing different from the Audi Q7, Acura MDX or Tesla Model X third row. Third row seating will always have similar leg-room spacing.

Guess it depends on how much longer they make it.

The rear bench in my Highlander is hardly large, but great for kids and acceptable for adults up to about a one hour trip, and that's all we need it for. If the RX matches this, it'll be a success.

I know that Toyota/Lexus has always been a conservative company in all of their offerings until very recently with Toyoda saying that a sea of change is coming. We're seeing that with the RC-F, LC500, and the redesigned RX, the updated LX, the GS-F, and others to come but I still can't help but think that Lexus is still leaving so much on the table. I know that a lot of the decision is made because of the bean counters but if you look at the competition, they have a vehicle for every category and in some cases, even invented the category. I'm talking to you BMW with the X6 and Benz with the CLS. Now, I can't imagine that all of these vehicles are making money as I believe that in some cases, the business case was made to see how much they would lose and if the other money making models would do well enough to cover the loses. I believe that it's always better to keep someone within your brand when shopping even if you lose some money but I also believe that in order to create and maintain loyalty is to keep going with a model and expand and grow. Stopping the IS-F after one generation will for certain doom it to not grow it's loyal following.

I mean look at the RX-L. It took them 4 generations to finally officially make one and we still don't have one. The RX is their bread and butter and they've denied people's wants for 4 generation. That's just bad business.

Another model that I think they've lot out on is the LX. I know that they don't sell very many in the US but the brand is so strong in other countries, that I can't imagine Lexus killing it off. That would be such a disaster. Instead, I wish they would make a LX XL version like the Escalade ESV. Again, I know that they probably won't make any money but do you think every car manufacturer is making money on every single high profile vehicle? I don't think so. Besides, they've already engineered the LX570. Why not spend a little more money to engineer an extended wheelbase version. We would have certainly bought an LX570 XL over our Escalade ESV in a heartbeat had one been available. We love the Lexus brand and love the luxury and quality and reliability that had one been available, it would have been a no brainer for us. Sadly, none was available and I don't expect to ever see one but should one show up, count us in.

It depends on how much more for "L" option. The regular RX is about the same price with MDX.
Maybe they can only give Q7 and XC90 a run for their money
