Default Key leather cover

Whats the trick to get the key to fit into the key leather cover. Cant seem to be able to get the key into the cover because of the elastic piece in the middle of the cover.

Thanks

Yeah ... that elastic piece is a PITA. I just pulled the elastic as far as it would go w/o breaking and got it done.

I never hav understood the benefit of the cover. It just makes the key take up more room in my pocket. Has anyone had a key break, when you drop it? They seem pretty tough to me.

It's definitely an aesthetic reason with protection from accidental button presses and scratches on the fob.

To me, it's not about the scratches. The key cover does soften the impact a little bit if you accidentally drop it on a hard surface like concrete, enough to possibly prevent a solder joint crack inside the unit. At a minimum, a solder joint crack would reduce the reliability of your key, and could develop into real trouble in the future after additional impacts.

The trick is to have the salesman put it on for you.

The sales guy put them on for me without asking. I could tell he just forced them on the fob with momentum.

I have never used the leather covers. I think they are mostly for scratch resistance but I keep my fob alone in that one pocket.

I used the leather covers for a while but I kept having to replace them after one year. I guess a dedicated pant pocket was too rough for the cover /s

Anyway I switched to silicone cover and it's lasted more than two years already.
