Running boards/steps and installation (merged threads)
I find the OEM running boards look nice but are at a height that is awkward to use. Its more comfortable to step over them right into the RX
working on getting a 2020 rx350 dealer is offering an extra $1000 off but it has running boards which are optioned at $540.
does anyone have pictures of one, I will ask the dealer also as I am outside his area.
any big downsides I assume they can be removed
sounds like this is a dealer add on don't see it on the lexus web site

They can be ordered with or without running boards, and are an accessory. What I dislike about them are, they're more appearance than function. You can't really step on them as they are too narrow. And when it rains, the inside of your pant leg gets wet because you drag it against the pants when you enter or exit.
Also, you can't remove them, as a filler panel has been removed in order to install them. The panels are $500.00 to replace when they are missing, plus labor.
We passed on a 2019 leftover RX and bought a 2020 due to this option being on the RX from factory.

If you like the rest of the car, get it. Mine had the towing package which I will never use but it was, otherwise exactly right. I think you won’t find them very useful. The RX isn’t really high enough to need them. If you step on the running board you end up way higher than the drivers seat. BUT , they look good. Like fog lights (I don’t have them), they look cool but you never use them. My opinion.
So we got our 2020 RX450hl and at the time thought we would not want the running boards. Now we do. Has anyone had a dealer install the OEM running boards and if so, how did it go? Also, any other recommendations on getting running boards installed.
Thanks so very much.

Does anyone have instructions to install sideboards for current model RX? I have misplaced mine and any instruction I could find online seem to be for a slightly different type.
The part number I have is PZQ4448050, it comes with heavy duty brackets.

Right...........I would't have them again on an RX. Just happened to be on the one I bought. Waste of money and get in the way getting in and out of the vehicle.
Just my 2 cents.

If you do install them, be sure to at least install the front mudguards as road debris will cover the running boards over time. I would much rather have auto extending and retracting running boards.
