Yeah, I was told it's not avail. Is that incorrect. Who the heck knows the right answer?

My dealer did not tell me it's not available when I briefly considered adding it to my special order.Originally Posted by Bearcat

Not sure how these orders work. I ordered a 450h in Nightfall Mica w/Noble interior, Triple lights, Luxury Pkg, Towing pkg, panoramic monitor, etc. Just after Christmas. My dealer says they "allocated one" that is scheduled to build the week of 1/25 and deliver by the end of February....how long does it REALLY take? Does anyone know how the system works? - how long to build, how long to ship, do they notify the dealer when it ships???

Every dealer gets set allocations of vehicles. They usually order the most common specs that will sell in that paritcular region. If a special order comes through, they simply change it based on which allocations have not passed the point of allocation.
For instance a couple dealers I went back and fourth with, said I could get the vehicle in 1.5 months while others were solid 3-5 months. All depends on regional allocations, waiting lists, pricing.

Sure is easier to buy off the lot, but there isn't much available right now...Originally Posted by coolsaber

from what I know, they notify the dealer when the order gets built. They know it's accepted because on the build sheet, in red, it will say "This request is currently being processed by DPMS and cannot be changed." Originally Posted by ghabicht

And I believe based on the build date, the dealers know an ETA of how long it takes.
Mine said 4 months. I'm thinking sooner which means I may get it end of March.

Well I am almost to the 3 month mark since ordering and still don't have a VIN or a build date. Nothing. This process is ridiculous.
Talk about a horrible tracking experience when special ordering a Lexus...did you all know that since back in 2002 you could special order a Mini Cooper and they will update you constantly and you can even watch it via multiple webcams being built. Lexus, nothing.
