Door LOCKS without detent “consent”
Wife’s 2019 RX350 F Sport has a few vexing problems but this one has caused the creation of many new cuss words: wife has just seated herself in the passenger seat, has just closed her door, I reach toward the door handle on driver’s side and CLICK, the whole car is locked (with her in it!)…..my hand is maybe 4 inches from the handle and nowhere near the detent slot on the handle. The same thing has happened on both passenger doors with no one inside. This is not a consistent issue and of course we cannot replicate it while visiting our dealer. Dealer has no clue. Car has 40K on it and warranty is up at end of May! Do you have any remedy for this, or is there a TSB? Thank you
Is it always the same scenario -- is she always already in the passenger seat when this happens? Does she already have her seat belt on? It might have something to do with the sensors in the passenger seat or the seatbelt.
The lock sensor is on the outside of the door handles. If you are close to the outside of the handles, specially when wet it will sense your touch and activate the lock. It happens to me when I am washing the car.
BTW, if there is another FOB inside the car the doors will not lock and only buzz.

I don't think it has anything to do with the passenger. On occasion, my car has locked when I accidentally touch the mirror or door when I am moving around the car in the garage. Your problem, like mine, leads me to believe that the car has some sort of faulty logic that prepares it for locking, rather than car entry, or another way to look at it is the sensors are hyper sensitive, and lock when you are near the vehice. When washing the car I just leave the fob, minus the key in the car.
It also happens if the car is empty of passengers, and seems to happen more as I reach for the either passenger door. Example: after returning from shopping trip, I reach for (dry) passenger door and it locks up…..without even touching the handle (much less the detent slot)!
Make sure you get documentation from the dealer service dept. that you were there and the complaint is in writing and have on there "we don't know" or something like that. Have this done before the warranty runs out.
It could be a sensor or main computer issue.
