Default 2GRFE/2GRFXE Engine Coolant Drain Plug Locations

While doing some routing maintenance on a 450h I found it very challenging to get a clear picture of the drain plug locations. So I decided to compile the best info I found and add my personal pictures for any future DIYers. Enjoy!

My personal pictures from a 2GR-FXE (450h)

Remove the oil dipstick bolt at the top and move the tube to the side for easier access.

Also, I found that the Hybrid 2GR-FXE does NOT have an engine bleeder valve behind the oil fill cap, as found on the standard 2GR-FE (RX350/Highlander). So purging the air took quite some extra time. I recommend using an OBD2 scan tool to monitor the Coolant Temp and keep it under 200F while cycling the engine to get the air out.

This is Techstream, but any OBD2 scan tool should work as well.

No-Spill Funnel works best

Holding the gas pedal to keep the engine idling

Which windows emulator are you using on your Macbook, and what version of Windows? Any special OBD cable?

Thanks.

Oracle VM Virtual Box
https://www.virtualbox.org

with Windows XP 32bit (x86) from Archive.org
https://archive.org/details/WinXPProSP3x86

Cable is called Mini-VCI J2534 found on Amazon or eBay, usually sold with a CD containing the required drivers.

The Techstream version that came on the CD didn't work for me so I found another version that did (12.10.019).

The only Techstream feature that doesn't seem to work with my 2010 ES or the 2010 RX450h is the Engine Live Data list, so I have to supplement it with my BlueDriver OBD2 scanner. On the other hand, it works flawlessly with the 1998 ES, so maybe I just need a different version.
