Climate Settings Resetting + No Heat on Driver's Side

I've seen a few threads with somewhat similar issues to what I'm not dealing with, but not in quite the same combination. Based on the below, my thought is to replace the driver's side blend door actuator servo that's accessible in the footwell. Does that seem like the next logical step? (part 87106-07140 or 87106-33260 I think).

I've also seen the dual climate control valve (DCCV) referenced but couldn't tell if that'd be a different place to start.

Symptoms:

Initially I only realized that the climate settings were not being saved. This happens more often than not, but not always. "Auto" light comes on when the car starts and then a "Fan Off" message about 30 seconds later. From there, I can turn on the system as normal. The temperature settings are reset at 75 degrees.

Today as part of troubleshooting I noticed that there is no heat on the driver's side, only cold air regardless of the temperature setting. (hadn't noticed previously as it's rarely cold here). The passenger side is working normally regardless of if dual is active. Mode settings seem to cycle correctly.

There has been no recent service. Fluid levels all appear full. I don't hear any seemingly abnormal noises when changing settings.

I did check the cabin air filter and made sure the system was set to recirculation immediately prior. I don't hear any clicking noises when toggling the recirculation button. I hear a motor run very quietly for a couple of seconds and it seems to be operational.

Thanks!

Need to hook up techstream and figure out what is not working before throwing parts at it.

Video relevant, but for an LS

I'd need to get one of those. Any of them better than others? I see a lot of options.
I may try to access that drivers side servo just to see if it's responding in the mean time.

No, techstream is techstream. Just buy one of the $20 cables and software on ebay or wherever. You will need a Windows 7 or older laptop. The Chinese cables won't work with Windows 10

Not true, the Chinese cables do work with W10. I just bought one and it works fine. The key is it should be W10 32 bit not 64 bit. You can use it with W10 64 bit with a registry hack.

Make sense. The newer firmware cable you are talking about or older? The older cables don't do TPMS on LS460, possibly others. There are other differences.

I just bought a firmware version 2 cable and am using it with version 10 Techstream. They are up to version 15 for Techstream. For whatever reason the version 1 firmware cable would not connect for me. It works for many others.

Yes that is the key, the older firmware one won't work on W10. Where did you buy it? Link please. They have been out of stock everywhere.

There are a number of these to choose from. Do you have a seller name?

The vendor is Aliexpress.com. Do a search with the text below.

Sorry for the confusion. I just tied it and it takes you to the correct page.

Techstream arrived today. It took a little work, but got it functioning with W10.

Error Code B1446 - Air Mix Damper Control Servo Motor Circuit (Driver Side). I was hoping it would resolve through the initialization tool, but no luck. That servo won't change values at all as I try to adjust them on the dash or through techstream.

Have I identified the servo in the diagram correctly as 87106V - PN# 87106-07120?
If I'm seeing the correct part up above the gas pedal, it's imprinted ae063800-0172pls.

Try unscrewing it and removing it, leaving it plugged in, then see if it moves at all. Sometimes they get stuck for whatever reason.

rustlerski Feb 21, 2021 08:54 PM

No luck getting it to move. I'll order a new one.
Anyone have experience with the oem vs. the aftermarket ones available?

Update: Ordered the aftermarket part figuring that it's easily accessible and I'd could buy a half dozen of them for the cost of the OEM. Plugged the servo in, but did not install into position. I turned the car on and the servo motor turned, which the old one wouldn't do. I then used techstream to clear any residual error code and to initialize the servo. No issues there, installed into position and confirmed it had full range of motion when going through the temperature settings. Seemingly good to go. Thanks for the guidance.

What was odd that with the old servo, as I'd opened it up after ordering the replacement, is that when I detached the large gears from the drive spindle, I could turn both the gears and the worm drive spindle easily but hand, but when I nested everything back together, it wouldn't move at all.
