My wife came home from picking up our take-out dinner last evening and complained that the exterior proximity sensors suddenly starting going off whenever she passed a road sign, fire hydrant, telephone pole, etc. While the four round body-colored sensors on the front bumper did not look particularly dirty, I wiped them all down with a wet cloth and then finished up with a dry cloth. Took the vehicle out for a 6-mile test drive and presto, no more sensor issue. Perhaps it was the pollen build-up.
Maybe not so cheap if you must paint the new sensor head to match the vehicle's body color. Is your shop saying that the exterior circle part of the sensor stays in place on the vehicle and you only have to replace the electronics behind it (so no painting involved)?
So, I checked. The factory ones come already painted. Aftermarket stuff does not come pre-painted. I don't know where he gets those. Perhaps you are right in that he'll charge me some money for painting.
