Here is the issue I am talking about. This is a video I made of the screen switching issue in my 2015 Lexus RX350 when making calls in Android Auto with the GROM VL2.

Seem like a common quirk with the Grom units on Lexus models. I guess I should be thankful my unit does go back to the Android Auto screen after a few seconds on its own.

The GROM VL2 is not perfect, but it does work for me I suppose. I like the Google map option with traffic information and clearer streaming audio sound. I do not use CD or DVD audio and the dated Lexus Bluetooth sound quality is not that good. Now the Lexus speakers actually sound good when I stream music with the VL2.

The only issue I have so far is the screen switching after phone calls; so not so bad so far. The only other issue that I know of is that the VL2 may freeze up after some use and need to be reset by pulling the VL2 power cord or the Lexus radio fuse from what I read.

Give this a try:
Hit Menu button once near mouse. [<- Important addition which I missed]
Tap the AUX-USB radio button [one or two or three times] to cycle through source. Since my wife's phone is one of the bluetooth source it cycles through as a source. I am nostalgic sure if it is Lexus electronics that takes over Vline looses it.

I think at the end we all know the aftermarket solution is complicated and the above is my acceptable workaround. Two taps is typically what it takes.

Salim

PS: Update to hit menu button at start]

Hi all, and Happy New Year!

The New Year starts with the new group order for the GROM VLine VL2 and VLite VT2 systems, which add CarPlay and Android Auto to the factory stereos of Lexus and Toyota vehicles!

The next group order will start on January 16th and run until January 24th. The product will ship at the end of January or early February.

The discount will be $120 off the VLine VL2 system and $70 off the VLite VT2 system. Both systems support wireless CarPlay and Android Auto integration into the factory Lexus stereo. With the GROM VLine VL2 or VLite VT2 system, you do not need to replace your factory stereo. The GROM systems use already existing car stereos, displays, and steering wheel controls to operate CarPlay and Android Auto in your vehicle. All important factory features, such as a backup camera and FM radio, will keep working.

If you want to join the group, send us a private message with your email address via this web forum. We will add you to the group.

Or you can send the request to join the group via the web form at https://gromaudio.com/support.html

We are happy to answer any questions you may have. Some of the frequently asked questions are:

1. What is the difference between GROM VLine VL2 and VLite VT2?
The GROM VLine VL2 offers wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as a stand-alone Android interface that you can use to download almost any app from the Google Play store to use in your car. The GROM VLite VT2 system is for wireless CarPlay and Android Auto only.

2. Can I install the system myself?
Yes, you can install the system if you have some technical ability. You will need to disassemble the portion of the dashboard to connect the system to the back of the stereo and display and install the microphone and GPS antenna. We have plenty of install videos on our website: Installs and video tutorials - https://gromaudio.com/installs/index.html
Otherwise, the local car stereo shop in your area should be able to help you with the installation.
The GROM VLine VL2 / VLite VT2 systems come with 30 days return for the refund period and 18-month warranty.

To join the group, send us the request via the web form at https://gromaudio.com/support.html or PM us your email address, and we will add you to the group list.

We also have recent improvement for our integration for Lexus RX 2010-2012 with factory navigation (LEX6RT model).
https://gromaudio.com/store/all-lex6rt_.html
This model will now use updated power interface cable MCFLEX6Y that will connect to the NAV module in the vehicle. The new cable has the ability to retain factory microphone and use it for CarPlay and Android Auto. We have new videos available.

Good to know about the improvement, but let us know if you have an upgrade at reduced cost option.

Not sure what exactly you mean - a reduced cost of the cable, or the system? We have the group buy starting on January 16th.

If it is just a cable, I will opt in. If it is the system box then I will skip.

so with a cable you can have the climate controls show on the vline side?

FYI i'm still having issues with my vline with my car's bluetooth connecting and disconnecting it constantly.

It is just the cable, but you will need to swap it - meaning reinstall the VLine in your vehicle. Here is the link to it:

The climate controls are more related to the firmware and specific stereo specs. The recommendation is to ensure you update the firmware to the latest available version. Here is how to update:

As for the car's Bluetooth, if you are using CarPlay, we recommend completely disconnecting the iPhone from the car's Bluetooth. Otherwise, there will be confusion. If you are using Android Auto, connect the phone to factory's Bluetooth for phone calls only, and to VLine for media, contacts, etc...

If you have trouble with VLine Bluetooth connection, ensure that the Bluetooth antenna on the VLine is attached and not damaged. Also, ensure there are no metal parts around the antenna that can obstruct the signal.
