Default Radio cuts out - chronic issue

Hello - is this a known issue? Just bought the car 2011 RX from orig owner & he mentioned that it would do this at times, & dealer never could find a culprit. Continues to do so w us... any known gremlins/culprits? Just goes off mid-play, & won’t come back on until it feels like doing so. Thx

There are some known issues with the radio's in early 3rd generation Lexus RX's. What audio configuration do you have?

I bought my 2010 Lexus RX last year and had intermittent issues with it just randomly turning off and then back on. There wasn't really any rhyme or reason to it. I've got the non-navigation unit with the black and white screen. I learned this was a problem through old posts in this forum and saw that many people took it to the dealer and they replaced the whole unit under warranty. The price of the unit new from Lexus was out of my price range but I did learn the original part was replaced by a revised unit.

The radio I took out of my car that was part 86120-0E280 which was replaced by 86120-0E550. Was able to find 86120-0E550 on eBay for $150 and replaced the entire receiver/climate assembly. Since replacing the original unit with the revised part I haven't had any issues.

Hey JonPK - thx for the invaluable feedback... i had looked for the issue in the forum & had not turned anything up

i have the same radio as you, & appreciate the part # documentation - was it a difficult change-out process? Did you find an instrux vid anywhere?

Would really like to hammer the dealer on it, they shoulda switched it out long ago, but its now been a while...

Sorry for the late response it wasn't too difficult I used a YouTube video showing the removal of the NAV unit and it's the same. You just need to have a 6 inch extension and a 10mm socket. Two of the four bolts are in an awkward spot but it wasn't too bad.

I bought my RX from a Lexus dealer last year and am the third owner. I'm blown away that in the first 9 years and 120k this issue was never resolved. Mine was pretty intermittent but some days were worse than others. I plan to keep this car for a while so fixing this issue was a top priority.

Link below is the video I used for radio removal.
