2011 Lexus RX 350 Aftermarket back up camera?
I purchased by 2011 Lexus without navigation so the backup camera is in the mirror, it's almost worthless.
I have 80,000 miles on it and last week my transmission went out. $3600 repair.
So trying to decide if I should just sell this car. I still LOVE the car, however, and the cars I've test driven recently just don't have as nice of a drive.
If I had a decent back-up camera I would be inclined to try and get a few more years out of it.
Is it possible to add an aftermarket back up camera?
I'm ok with a stand alone monitor but it would be awesome if I could replace the radio with a nice display and apple car play.
Are there downsides to adding an after market camera? I don't want to mess up the car, I would rather sell it. But if I could update it I (and my wallet) would be happier.
I am in Southern California.

There is Android head unit for our RX and would fit your car however its a bit pricey. The link bellow shows the unit and it supports a backup camera.
I remember I installed a version of one of these for my 2007 Toyota RAV4, it was awesome. The rav4 did not have a rearview camera oem option but there were kits out there for it and with the power of Youtube I was able to install it myself.
But again, that unit for the rav4 cost me about 400 canadian all in, this unit is advertised for 1,350 canadian.... plus install. personally if it were myself I would not get it (if it were 800 cnd yes!) but it is an option and for you it might be worth it.
You did just spent 3600 and you may be keeping the car 10+ years?.
Also you are not missing much if you think of buying another same gen RX with navi and backup camera. It sucks!!
The screen is small, not high quality, laggy, navi is old and the backup camera has no trajectory lines plus everything looks almost like black and white. My old android unit for RAV4 had trajectory lines and the quality looked great!! it was way better in every respect to my current 2014 RX.
I hope that helps.

Well what I really want is a good back up camera. Is it possible to add this aftermarket?
No, I don't plan to keep the car 10 years, maybe 3 more if I can get a good camera. I don't really need navigation, I have a phone.

A friend added one (brand unknown) to his Subaru BRZ and it does not work properly. You get a couple seconds of viewing time, then it goes black. They have lots of experience with such modifications, but have been unable to make it work properly.
I doubt you could get an aftermarket camera that would work via the factory screen. It may have to be a self contained system with its own screen on your dash. Cost may be prohibitive. Consider trading for same car with Nav.

The problem is that trading for the same car with Navi is that the 2011 navii is terrible by today's standards. I bought my car new, have maintained it well and no accidents, it's also the color and interior that I can see well., don't want to buy an unknown used car. The 2018/19 RX are pretty large for me now (and expensive). I almost always drive solo.
