Coming up on replacing front pads and rotors. 72k ODO, OEM parts (though not original). Being quoted about $600 for pads, rotors and install from dealer. OEM has always seemed impressive to me especially coupled with Toyo Celsius tires I have. I have though been looking around for aftermarkets that perform as well if not better than OEM. I've seen that some have used EBC. Can anyone else chime in on their experience with EBC or another brand?

My understanding is that most of the pads that Lexus uses are made by Akebono. This is what I have used on all my Lexus cars. Current SC430 RX350 and RX330. Also use on 2000 ES300 and Rx300. No problems anytime.
For rotor life stick with ceramic pads like Akebono and Centric Ceramics. I've had ebc pads before but not their SUV formula, they were hit and miss but over the years they have tweeked their compounds. If you want to compromise rotor life for improved performance, a semi-metallic pad should suffice. Hawk LTS pads or Hawk HPS 5.0 pads have good reviews for high bite.
You can also purchase pads with Toyota/Lexus badge by searching the net fro Toyota/Lexus parts on line. I would suggest to stay away from unknown reseller.
EBC is fine if you pick the right compound. Hawk is good. Centric is BAD!
what is your experience and what Centric pad compound did you use? I'm on a second set of Centric Ceramics on my RX300...no complaints, no noise and low dust. Good/bad is highly subjective based on compound and proper break in procedures.

Sorry for late response...
I melted a pair of Centric ceramic pads in two laps of Auto-Cross (on a different car, obviously). Literally, after two simple laps, these went from new to metal. OEM had zero issues repeatedly running this course all day, so I deemed Centric to be junk.
I now have EBC on one of my vehicles, and they're excellent.

I have Raybestos Element 3 Hybrid (EHT) pads and liked them enough to put also put them on my mother's ES350. Stops faster, quiet, no dust, wears well. Low price. Rock Auto has them. They come with all hardware!
