Bank 1 exhaust oil control valve
Check engine/VSC light came on. Dealer says " Bank 1 exhaust oil control valve" - $650 repair. My 2004 RX 330 (305,000 miles) never had this problem. Is there another way? Or should I bite the bullet.
Bought this 2010 RX 350 one month ago from the dealer, who included a 3 month powertrain warranty - is this part of the powertrain?
Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Most of the 'weasel-words' that I've seen in warranty plans specifically exclude any parts that are not "internally-lubricated" -- and an exhaust oil-control valve (whatever in the heck that is -- is that near the muffler-bearing or rumpets?) sounds like it's "internally-lubricated" by definition.
Good luck! Keep us posted.

I would argue it is part of the powertrain and call Lexus corporate to complain before paying, maybe they will cover it for goodwill. I would also ask a local independent shop if they think it is part of the powertrain. I think this went on my old ES350 but it was under factory warranty at the time. It has almost the same engine.
Looking at this link to a Sienna (same engine basically) the valve is certainly internally lubricated. http://www.tsienna.net/r_amshaft_tim...embly-592.html Look at the 3rd drawing down from the top.
Also look at this link https://www.clublexus.com/forums/es-...00-repair.html

it is however super disturbing that it went south this early. On my Gen 1 RX, my first bank oil control valve died at 160K miles. The second bank valve died around 230K miles......
