Remember 450H should stay on the paved roads .. or atlas should not be used for off-roading. There is important stuff in the underbelly that can get torn.

We went from a 2010 Prius to a 2013 RX-350 Fsport this June
Gave the Prius to a daughter to use
Only had to replace the rear brakes on the Prius, probably due to all the salt brine they use in Ontario in the winter , front are still good at 160,000 km( 100,000 miles)

we did not get a 450h mainly because they are hard to find used in Ontario and we live in farm country so it mostly hiway miles so the 8 speed trans will be good

but if there was a 450 in my price range, the last thing I would be worried about is a battery on a 450

This is my maintenance routine on our RX450h and ES300H. This has worked for me with zero issues for over a million miles.

Every 10,000 miles an oil change and tire rotation is needed. At the Lexus dealership this should be less than $100. Every 30,000 miles the brake fluid needs to be changed and again about $100. Every 20,000 miles change the air and cabin filters. This combined takes five minutes and the air filter can be bought on line at Lexus Parts World for $18. The cabin air filter can be bought at Walmart for $18, It is the Fram Fresh Breeze #10285 with carbon and baking soda to filter the air. Wiper blade inserts again can be bought at Lexus Parts World for $20 for both refills and takes five minutes to replace. You are done until 100,000 miles. At Lexus Parts World use cl5 in the promo code for 10% discount. If you go in and ask for the 10,000, 20,000 30,000 maintenance you will be paying big bucks for a lot more items you do not need checked and inspected. Once a year replace the key fob battery cr2032. Keep receipts for everything. I take my oil filter and 5 quart jug of Mobil 1 purchased at Walmart for $24 to my local Toyota dealer and they charge me $20 labor

What should appeal to the long term owner is some of the startling items missing from a Lexus/Toyota
hybrid model vehicle. They do not have an alternator...or a starter...or Power Steering Pump/Fluid/noise.
The Motor/Generator "MG" (one of two on our 2WD hybrids, one of three on the RX AWD) is attached to the
Internal Combustion "IC" engine - starts it without the characteristic "Bendix" mechanism noise and then generates
280v and 12v current. A/C compressor on IC only cars are belted and is driven at all the wrong speeds, ie.,
low speed when the car is first started on a hot day and at top speed when on the highway! Your home has
a compressor driven by 220v, the Lexus/Toyota hybrids have a 280v battery that drives the A/C at the designed
RPM even when the IC is off. Batteries of our experience are Lead/Acid and last 5-6 years, Hybrid batteries are
Nickel-Metal Hydride that will last longer than the car! (Note that there is a small 12v lead acid battery in our
hybrids that will require replacement at the usual time frame). Last point for now is that the conventional friction
brakes will last at least twice as long, they are not used to slow from high speed only from much lower speeds
and to hold on a hill. The MGs slow the fast car by making electricity thus saving the brakes.

I approve the following message. LOL 😁😁😁😁👍👍👍

Yes, especially now gas is on it's temporary price hike due to the the hurricane Harvey.......the hybrids will do well in this regard.

The RX450h's hybrid batteries and drive train SYSTEMS are tried and true proven with many many real millions of world miles across the globe.

We have a 2007 RX400h. Between tires, 90,000 mile service, water pump, oil changes, Nav DVD update, etc. we have probably spent less than $4,000 on maintenance since 2010 (bought it used). Hybrid battery is still going strong. We will trade in my son's 2004 Civic Hybrid (lousy hybrid implementation) for a fully optioned 2010 RX350 with 24,000 miles and do the car hand-me-down thing. I drive the Tesla. My wife will drive the RX350 and my son the RX400h (which is a huge step up from the Civic).

My wife prefers getting the RX350 over a CPO Tesla. She finds it more comfortable. We like the quality of the RX. Even though it is the first 3rd generation RX it's better than our 2007, which we are perfectly happy with. She also likes the looks of the earlier 3rd generation more than the later 3rd generation (and don't get her started on the 4th generation).

You need to buy a newer car for L/certified but I never had any warranty issues on the 2007 so it doesn't bother me getting a 2010.

So I think the OP is safe buying any 3rd generation RX that suits his taste. It's not easy to find a hybrid, but if you find one at a price you're happy with then you can buy that too with no worries. Certainly won't be like the X5. Or my Civic.

I figure this is a great place to drop my awesome 2011 RX 350 story. I just landed the ultimate "old lady selling a great car she never drove" story. I just picked up a 2011 RX 350 (with a bunch of options) for $20K. And it has 4800 miles on it! The lady did all her maintenance on it at a dealership, too. Took great care of the car. The thing's basically been garaged 90% of its life.

And then, here I am, on Club Lexus...

That's a phenomenal deal! I'm looking at a 1-owner 2010 RX 350 with 89K that is now "being serviced: cleaned, detailed, paint touch up, and body repair " by a local Lexus dealer (per my contact there) - list price is $19,991!

It would not have required many service at 4,800 miles.

I am sure the X5 referred to in the 6 year old post (#21) above is a BMW as that is one of their models. Why is that important? That person only posted one time, back in 2017 and is certainly never going to respond or know you asked.
