2015 RX 450H the cabin noise level is extremely noticiable, what is going on..??
Don't take me wrong my wife loves her new car and it runs perfect, but we notice the road noise inside the cabin is remarkably higher than our much taller, older and generally noiser land cruiser with big tires and a large roof rack..
I'm thinking most be do to the space require for the battery's so they did not install as much sound dampening as other vehicles..
Anything we can do with out ripping all the carpets out and start from bare metal..??
Thanks..

It's because the noise-reducing laminated front sidelights, windscreen, and quiet drivetrain have lowered the noise level to the point to where the tires have become the dominant source of noise.
I find that Sirius XM, properly adjusted, corrects that issue.
If you're an iPhone user, try using this to actually measure and compare:

Main cause is having rear tire wells basically inside the cabin. So you have large metal hollow spaces not covered by seat backrest and trunk lid. This was very noticeable in our 99 RX300. It is a large resonating chamber in the rear.
There are two ways to fix it. Besides turning rap on to the maxx, of course.
Adding extra coat of sound dampening mastique inside the tire wells. Severla layers even better.
Switching to soft tread/sidewall tires. Touring type, less sidewall ply.

For my gen 1 RX with 252K miles, Michelin LTX was the tire brand/line of my choice. I did try another brand/line only to experience much higher level of road noise. So I now have a product bias........ or you can call it a brand loyalty. The fact that its available at Costco makes it even easier........

I painted several coats of SprayDead sound deadener inside my wheel wells (after removing the carpet like covering) and it helped reduce tire and road noise, but not as much as I hoped.

Thanks for all the responses, they all make perfect sense..
Ps: we are on a trip and rent a new 4 runner and is absolutlly silent with big old nasty tires and everything, I know is not even close to a RX but at least they come from the same mothership..
