Moon Roof Shade
Hi all
Just curious, Does anyone else notice that when the moon roof is wide open ( including the shade). When I'm driving over 60 km/h, there is a very strong vibration coming from the shade to a point where ever part of my head and cabin vibrates. It is soooo annoying . I would like to mention it to my dealer , but I know what they are going to say " ah , it nothing". Like ever thing else they would say too!!

This is just the effect of having a single window open in a car. Air is trying to enter the car and exit the car through the same opening. The vibration you are feeling is akin to sitting inside a jug while someone is blowing over the top of the jug to make it whistle.
The way to prevent this is to open one or more other windows enough to allow the air an alternate route to escape and relieve the build up of pressure. There are also plastic shields you can add to the front of your moon roof (and available for front windows too) to redirect the air a bit to relieve (but not eliminate) this issue. The fact that these plastic shields are made for almost every car available should give you some idea of how non-unique this problem is to your vehicle.
EVERY car I have ever been in exhibits this this phenomenon to some extent when the moon roof or even a rear window is the only window open. It is not a flaw in the vehicle... it is just the basic principle of how a whistle functions... the car has a large volume so the whistle is a VERY low frequency whoop... whoop... whoop...

Brings back old memories. The early complaints about first gen RX was exactly this. Never tried it in 3rd gen.
Standing waves produce the sweet notes when we listen to flute, here they produce the annoying noise for you.
Remedy:
Crack open any of the rear-window just a smidgeon.

When driving on the highway I have found that if I opened the roof approx 80% it would reduce the wind buffeting a lot.. Usually I open it all the way, and then hold the button to close it until I find the position where the noise / vibration level is acceptable.
BTW- It's not only Lexus, I have done this same thing on other brands/ makes I have owned over the years.

Your moonroof does not open completely on the first click of the open button for that very reason. Don't open it all the way if you're going to drive at speed. Buffeting happens on all cars and is normal.
