Idling high RPM? Is this normal?
Hi all.. basically when you start the car first time of the day.. the RMP goes to like 1500.. and dropping to 700-800 ish RPM after maybe 30 seconds. then, i would proceed on driving. That was what it USED to be like on my car..
Over the past few months. i noticed, when i start the car.. its only going from 1500 to 1000 rpm.. and would not drop any lower after waiting for minutes, not to mention higher engine sound....once i shift to D, it does down to 700-800 ish... after driving for a abit.. if i stop for grocery and start car again, it would go from 1500 rpm to 7-800..
so seems like, on first start of the day, or at least extended time of not driving, starting car and wait would not drop RMP below 1000..but once its warmed up, it would.
I dont live in a cold place, so temperature is not an issue...
Does this sound normal? or any insight to whats happening?

Idling
What does your car idle at when you just just start from cold?
I've noticed a couple of times that when I start my newly-acquired' 15 RX350,it idles at about 1200RPM, almost 50% higher than it normally does, for no specific reason. The only connection I could draw is that the car hasn't been driven for a few days and/or it's a little colder than usual in the morning (car always garaged indoors though). I wouldn't say it's "rough idling", just somewhat more elevated (and therefore noisier) than usual..
I've dropped a can of Liqui Moly Jectron Fuel injection Cleaner as soon as I bought the car a few weeks ago, but that hasn't either improved mileage or correct the above...
Any ideas?

If you read all the responses above, you should see that it's normal for the car to idle high, 1200 RPM, when the engine is cold, and it should come back down at or below 1000 RPM after it warms up slightly. Once the engine fully warms up, it should idle around 700-800 RPM.

Lead Lap
The emissions logic “lights off” the catalytic converter by raising the engine RPM - varying it to account for fuel additives, temperature, and catalyst condition.
You may also notice a delay (higher than normal engine RPM) in the first-to-second gear up-shift if you accelerate slowly immediately upon engine start.
All good (I refrain from using the word “normal”, because of the ambiguity — as in: Death, Taxes and smelly farts are Normal; however, they’re rarely misconstrued as Good).
