Not sure if i'm ready to give up yet.

Are you facing the same shifting behavior with your RX350?

Say in gear 4, the RPM given MPH is 1500rpm. During the shift from 3-4, the RPM will drop to 1500rpm, then rises to 1700 rpm, followed by a drop back to 1500rpm.

Changed all 6 spark plugs. The one near the bulk head is a real PITA, but got it done. Plugs in bad shape. Full of carbon deposits.

Cleaned the Throttle Body while at it. Not extremely dirty, but you can see some dirt/carbon on the rag that i use to wipe it down.

200 miles later, it stopped flaring/blipping, shifting perfectly.

I'm a happy camper at the moment. Will keep an eye. Something for the benefit of other forum members if they face the same problem.

If the problem returns, i'll likely do 1x drain+fill+Lubegard Red.

Thanks Lexus114.

dont use a whole bottle of the lubeguard red only a 1/4 to 1/2. that all you need of it. its really good stuff but when i added a whole bottle to my 2005 rx trans, it shifted weird. so i found it works best on a 1/4 or so of it.

Yeah, may start with 2-3oz and see how that goes. I assume you mean a 10oz bottle.

What is the total volume of ATF in U660e ? According to Lubegard's documentation, U660e has a total volume of 6.9quart. I'm quite sure i have seen 10-12 quarts stated somewhere here in this forum.

When you say it shifted weird, just curious how was it weird? Slipped, flared, etc?

Used a 10ml syringe to transfer the LG into the gearbox. Took me 9 times to transfer 3 oz.

What i noticed.
i) I use the same syringe to transfer 500ml of WS a couple of weeks ago. It was sticking badly, as in real tight. Locked up at times. When i use it to transfer LG, the first time was still sticking, 2nd time onwards, the stroke was extremely smooth. "Free Sticking Valves"!!

ii) Took it for a drive. Not expecting too much from 3oz. It seems to have taken some edge off when shifting.

Let's see how it goes in a couple of days. According to LG, it would need time to work on the clutches.

the 05 rx trans with the whole bottle of lg added just wasn't right. i don't remember exactly now anymore because that was many years ago, but it just felt wrong. so i drained and refilled it with only 3-4 oz and it was just right.

Hi Kevin,

I just came across this thread, having recently joined the CL forums.

There has been no further info on your thread, so I assume no news is good news. How is your transmission driving these days? Just wondering how many kms of satisfactory shifting has passed now.

I can still get it to misbehave at very low throttle that forces the gear change to occur below 1500rpm.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcme...ature=youtu.be

Look at the RPM jump right after a gear change at approx 10:00 sec. The entire video was shot on a level road with constant throttle position.

Any ideas? Slip? Sticky solenoid? I'm kind of lost.

Lexus doesn't think a reflash will fix the problem.

You might just have to live with it, as it may be more costly to try and resolve this issue which only happens in very low throttle application.

Yeap. Nothing I can do at the moment. The GB has been doing this for the past 40000km and does not appear to get any worse. I can try various things to fix it, but those will cost real money and might not fix the problem. A full rebuild costs about RM8000, or approx USD2100

Read somewhere that Lexus programs their GB to "slur" between shifts. My previous ride was an E90 with the GM gearbox. Shifts are quick and downright harsh in DS mode. Yet to try the 5 speeder in the W203/204. My weekend ride has a DSG and that is a different animal altogether. I'm ok with slow shifts since this is a comfort biased vehicle. It is the momentary RPM rise during gear changes that I'm worried about.

Anything cheap I can try in the mean time? Maxlife ATF?
