Default What repair costs the most have been done for 2012-2015 RX?

Hi for all clublexus members,

I am wondering should I buy extended warranty for my 2013 RX450H which I put up 45k miles since purchased new? What the most expensive repaired work have been done to your RX450H and RX350 (2012-2015 model year) so far after original warranty expired?

Thank you for all your input.

Alan

Has anyone with a RX450h experienced an oil leak from the timing chain cover? Apparently this is a freakishly expensive repair job, but I can't say from my research that this is a common failure item for the 2GR FXE engine in the 450h.

I don't know of any.

Is yours still under warranty?

I am just about to sign the deal for a pre-owned MY2013 (built Dec 2012) RX450h Sport Luxury with only 45,000 kms on it. 28,000 miles.

When I came across discussions on the web about oil leaks, it naturally got me a bit worried:

So I'm wondering if any of the 2013 models (and newer) have also experienced this issue.

Any model year Gen 3 RX350 or RX45h can get the timing cover oil leak, if you are lucky it is under warranty. This leak is almost always very small and only a slightly messy nuisance. There is no danger of losing enough oil to hurt the engine. Many folks just wipe it up once in a while and keep on driving as the cost is out of proportion to the problem. They have to lift the engine a bit and the whole thing can cost $3,000. Many will never know they have it unless the dealer needs to make their repair sales quota.

If I get one in my car I will wipe off the oil and save my money for down payment on the next vehicle. You would never get back that $3,000 on re-sale or trade in.

Closing in on five years of happy ownership, and not a single problem thus far, warranty or otherwise. This is why I chose Lexus in the first place, and for that reason I'm not a fan of extended warranties, though if I had a bunch of expensive electronic stuff (infotainment) I might think otherwise....

Most I have ever spent outside of general maintenance is $375+tax to replace the rear suspensions. There is a squeak coming from the rear passenger "suspension" every time I go over a speed bump. However even though this was the diagnosis, it did not fix my issue. Lexus refunded me $400 and did another check, turned out a bushing just required additional lube. This helped for 1 year but now the vehicle's doing it again. Anyhow, to answer the question, Lexus did charge me $45+tax to find the squeak and lube it. Therefore this is my most expensive repair outside of general maintenance, $45+tax.
I have a 2013 with 130k-KMs. Never got the extended warranty, even though they had offered it at a 30% discount from MSRP during initial purchase.

I would buy the extended warranty. I just bought my 2011 ( I know it's older) a few months ago. I am very disappointed that I just had to replace fuel injectors at $1500 plus coils which was the initial diagnosis another $500. I declined the extended warranty because I thought Toyota and Lexus were the most reliable cars on the market. Obviously not....I am very upset I switched from Honda so that I didn't have to change a timing belt. Toyota is not the reliable brand it used to be.

Not here but our 2015 is only just over 34K.

As for extended warranties, on any vehicle -- or any product, not just cars -- it's basically insurance. It's not the item itself that matters so much as the person making the decision. You can poll about the experience of others but that doesn't really tell you what your experience will be. If you want the peace of mind then get it. However, keep in mind that these are highly profitable for those that sell the warranties. We didn't expect any significant issues but went ahead and bought one from Lexus on top of the L/Certified warranty on ours as it we intend to keep it for the long term. IIRC we basically broke even on one for our prior 400h with a steering rack replacement and some other miscellaneous smaller items.
