Default Traffic without Satellite?

Is it possible to get real time traffic on the RX NAV without Satellite radio? My BMW (2008) gets traffic free from terrestrial radio. I think clear channel makes it available (not positive). Is there a setting I am missing or is the Lexus restricted to XM only?

I have a 2013 RX350

the BMW does not have HD radio or satellite radio receivers just good old AM FM

The 3rd gen RX is satellite only for traffic. The 4th gen uses HD radio.

Yes it's free. It uses the HD tuner mainly but also the App Suite app as a backup source of info in case you have poor HD reception.

Yes it's free, with no subscriptions required. I have it on my IS. The coverage is better than satellite, in that many side streets are included in the traffic coverage, but like satellite, the accuracy seems to vary wildly from one part of the country to the next. Here in the PNW, I find it to be pretty accurate.

Thanks, I wonder if we have WSDOT to thank for that?

HD Radio gets the traffic info from the TTW network (Total Traffic and Weather). They have nationwide coverage, so I'm not sure what they use for a data source, but in any case, I've found it to be fairly accurate around here. Definitely not perfect, but good enough to be quite useful in trip planning.

I should note that the weather data is also free through HD Radio.

I find that Waze on my iPhone is much better at handling traffic and re-routing than the satellite-based traffic on my 2015 RX450h.

Thank you

This service is only available on vehicles that come equipped with the service. 2014 RXs don't, but you can subscribe to the XM service. I don't think 2011s come with the service either. Based on an earlier post in this thread 2016s do use the FM service.

More info on the Traffic Message Channel can be found here.
