Edmunds Used RX Cost of Ownership

Can someone explain the Edmunds Cost of Ownership chart on a used RX350? Why does it show $8k depreciation on the fist year of a USED 2013? http://www.edmunds.com/lexus/rx-350/2013/cost-to-own/ A *NEW* highlander is showing $5k depreciation. Thanks!

It is just a tool and not a perfect one. I plugged in 2015 just to see the difference and it gives me same $8K for the first year. By the way you are not far from me, I am in Irvine and on 100/300/50 insurance I am paying less than $800 a year not estimated $2K. Estimate for maint. cost is ridiculous, one of the reasons I keep on buying Lexus is because of low maint. cost. During 10 year of ownership (2005 RX330) I replaced two sets of tires, front rotors, two batteries and oil (3x per year) under $4K in 10 years. They are estimating twice as much for 5 years.

Edit: I think this tool is more applicable to a new car.

Yeah I think the 8k is buying it new. For a used 2013 I would look at the year 3 or 4 numbers to get a more accurate estimate.

Appreciate it! Considering purchasing my first Lexus. Love the quality of the car but hesitant to purchase the showy badge!

From one old fart to another.

Edmunds over estimates insurance rates ffor long time policy holders.
State Farm in one of the few companies that allows stackable uninsured motorist rates. Meaning that having $100k coverage on one car covers all cars. Having $100k coverage on 2 cars stacks coverage to $200k total.

My State Farm rates on my new 2015 RX450h is $256 every 6 months
250k/500k/100k
Uninsured Motorist 250k/500k (covered on 2008 SC430, stackable)
$1,000 deductible Collision
$1,000 deductible Comprehensive
Florida "No Fault"

My 2008 SC430 rate Is $433 for 6 months
250k/500k/100
Uninsured Motorist 250k/500k
$1,000 deductible Collision
$1,000 deductible Comprehensive
Florida No Fault
