Default Clunk noise

I seem to be having a clunk noise coming from my car when braking to a standstill or accelerating from a standstill.

Its totally unpredictable but only happens when braking or accelerating under 10mph.

No noise when going over bumps or turning and its only heard when the windows are down.

Any ideas on what it could be?

if its a slight clunk it could be just the brake pads shifting in the hardware

Yep just a slight clunk when braking and accelerating. Only ever happens once upon braking and once upon acceleration but it doesn't happen on every occasion

I can't say I've noticed this before. Is this normal?

Did you change anything to the braking components recently or did this happen on its own? Check to make sure nothing is loose in the braking area and also the lug nuts are tighten as loose lugs can cause the wheel themselves to shift. Let us know what you find out.

Happened on its own. No changes to the braking components since new. It's defo not the wheels moving though

Hmmm, something loosened up. Try putting the vehicle on jack stands and have a second person slowly accelerate and then brake; while you inspect which side the noise is coming from. It maybe coming from the brake calipers/pads or the axle.

Something similar happened to mine, noise braking or accelerating at very low speed, although I would not describe it as a clunk, more like a loud "tick". Took it to the Toyota dealer and upon pickup the fix was "tighten chassis bolts", no more noise. They even did it for free.

Did yours happen just once when braking and once when accelerating? I guess it is a clunky "tick" lol.

rayaans, have you taken a look at this thread? We have a few noise related threads in the forum. But some describe it differently (i.e. clunk, thump, click, etc.). It might take searching through a few before you find the right one.

Once you hit the brakes and it clicks, let go of the pedal and depress again. Is the click still there? If not, it's probably the brake pads shifting around. It happened to my other Lexus and the fix was to get new brake pad fitting hardware.

In my case it sounded like taking a medium size screw driver and tapping the tool end straight down on metal. if I came to a stop or accelerated gently, no noise or maybe just a "tick". Moderate B or A, "tick". Hard B or A, "TICK".

Once the noise happened in any one direction, it would not happen again unless it made the noise in the other direction. For example, if I stopped gently enough with no noise, I could accelerate quickly and there would be no noise.

I guess something on the chassis was shifting back and forth imperceptibly, but with enough weight and force that even 0.5mm of movement would make the noise, and tightening the chassis bolts somewhere fixed it up.

I did take a look at the reversing thump thread. It sounds similiar and I guess it may just be movement in the calipers. I don't get it at crawling speed during car parks for example. Only happens when I'm stopping from 30mph moderately.

I know exactly what you are talking about OP. I have had the same issue for the past year. I haven't had a chance to get it looked at. Sounds like a metal on metal click/tick. Happens on acceleration up to 5 km and immediate braking. From what I've read you just have to get the bolts tightened underneath.

Last time I was at the dealership it couldn't be replicated. Next service in a month. I'll update this thread if it's fixed.
