Question 2010-11 Oil Cooler Line Recall

So I just got Lexus notification about inspecting this part and IF it's rubber, they replace it with a metal line. I'm inclined to have this done sooner rather than waiting for next regular service, I read a few stories about this line rupturing and spewing all the oil out of the engine in seconds. However I don't feel like going all the way to the Lexus dealer just for them to tell me I already have the metal line version. I tried to figure out where to look for this in the engine compartment, found some diagrams and pictures of the part, but I just couldn't seem to find it to tell. Either I'm not looking in the right place or it requires a point of view I just can't do myself.

Anyway, just wondering if anyone else has had this inspected yet and whether or not they needed a replacement. My 2010 was built in July 2009 so I figure the chance of having the older rubber part high considering the recall extends into the 2011 model year, but who knows for sure?

I have an RX350 and last year got a notice extending the warranty for this part. I am surprised to see it elevated to a recall for the hybrid.
It is near the oil filter. If you know where that is located, the oil cooler hoses are near it. Either between it and the bumper or closer to the side of the engine. I have not looked in a while. They usually do not start leaking until you accumulate a lot of miles. Or squirt some oil on it before taking it to the dealer......

here is a link to my post with a link to the reimbursement letter from Lexus.

Here's what they sent me...

The "abnormal noise" they are referring to is the complete starvation of oil, prior to catastrophic failure, maybe.

On your attachment, is that the only page? Do you have something that indicates the number of the campaign and something that indicates the VIN number ranges? Of course, this may only be in Canada and down here in the US we still have to pay for the replacement.
The noise they refer to is your engine self destructing as all the oil is pumped out when the pipe fails at 60 miles per hour.

No, the rest is just an owner information change reply card.

So Lexus/Toyota was forced by the Canadian Government (probably more likely) or decided on their own, to recall the Canadian vehicles with this defect, but only provided US owners with an extended warranty.

Well I went ahead and had this done, shiny new metal oil line. Uneventful, got to spend the day with a only days old ES350, 180km on the odometer. I've heard people in the regular 3rd gen forum talk about how hard the RX seats are (I personally think they're soft). Those people should take a spin in an ES350, 5x harder than my RX. So hard I could feel a pea sitting on the floor under the seat.

It's a nice quiet ride though, only sound was the gas tank sucking dry pretty fast without the hybrid system I'm used to.

Wonder why I did not get the notice mail to me. My RX450H 2010 oil line break yesterday. The thing is I didn't know the oil leaked out so I drove 10miles to work. on my half way to work the dash beep and display Engine Oil Pressure low. at work I check the oil it all empty. not a single drop stick to the oil test stick. I stop by Lexus dealer they said it will be cover but I have to tow the car to them. they wont pay for the towing. lucky my friend help me out with his AAA. I only pay $15 for the over miles charge ~9 miles over their 5miles limit. the part is on order it will be install tomorrow. Hope my engine not damaged. anyone with same car you should get your replace ASAP.

did the notice show up on the lexus drivers website? not that you should be expected to check for recalls!

Tomorrow I go in for another recall, replacing oxygen sensor and related wiring harness. Seems the wiring harness location is prone to damage from engine vibrations. From the notice, seems the recall is specific to 2010 RX450h. Another Lexus Canada only recall, haven't heard a peep about this from any US owners?

Andy, the service bulletin affects US owners. I had the O2 sensor and harness replaced back in September. Took about 45 minutes. I had them go in both the 300 and 330. Fortunately they were both replaced under warranty. But I'm glad Lexus decided to take the proactive step this time around. I'll have the oil cooler line checked next week.

Good luck tomorrow.

Only Canada has the oil line recall. In the US we have an extended warranty. See the attachment in the link in my post above. Also it is talked about in the Highlander forum. http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/12...nt-letter.html

True but I'll ask my SA to have the tech check to make sure no oil is leaking. It's a 30 mile drive to the dealership.

Will take my RX450h for O2 replacement next week but they refused to replace rubber oil line knowing that this Lexus dealer has replaced several lines. Warranty increased from 4 years to 10 years. Always thought Lexus was proactive not reactive. This disappoints me.

If/when someone gets this line replaced, can you please post the part #? I would like to be proactive and replace it before this occurs.
