Question Wheel surface peeling

The surface of all four of my alloy wheels on my 2010 RX 350 are peeling. Any ideas why?

Have they been refurbished in the past? Could be a bad refurb.

Also, harsh chemicals, eg acidic wheel cleaners tend to get in little pinholes and scratches in wheel finishes and react with the metal underneath causing the paint to bubble up and peel. Ive found acidic wheel cleaners to be the worst in this, alkaline cleaners do the same but not as bad as acidic ones!

Who's been washing the car btw?

It was a certified lexus when I bought it. I have only used soap and water on the wheels.

most likely it was the previous owner's use of chemicals. You can wet sand them smooth and respray the clear coat. As far as certification goes, i think they just certify for the structural integrity and touch up as needed before sale.

Many dealers have independent wheel repair & refinish guys who travel from dealer to dealer. Ask your dealer if they know anyone. Also some detail and body shops will refinish wheels. Or if there is a local wheel repair place, give them a call.
