So in Illinois there has been a problem with license plates corroding around the letters and numbers, we ordered replacements. Received the replacements, removed the old plates, and found a pencil thin 3 inch rust line in the paint. Tried to remove it with car wax and it would not come off. The plates had been on the car for 3 months on our 2015 Any idea what I should try next to remove the rust?

 

try a polish or pre-wax cleaner, wax is more of a sealer.

 

Thanks i think I used a cleaner type wax. I will try a polish next. Not sure if a rust remover or rubbing compound would be too harsh and leave a bigger mark.

 

also try a little polishing compound. then wax that area afterward.
