Default SuperBumper (Rear Bumper Protection)

Was recently rear-ended, possibly caused by lane splitters going 75+ mph during our morning commute. Luckily, the car in front managed to move over to the suicide lane. Unfortunately, the vehicle behind us wasn't so lucky.

As a knee-jerk reaction and to prevent any future tail-gaters, I purchased a couple of new mods. Curt tow hitch and a SuperBumper to go with it. http://superbumper.com/

I will post some pics after installing.

How does it compare to the Weathertech one?

I can't vouch for the WeatherTech since I've never seen it physically. Based on the pictures and WeatherTech's website, it's smaller and lighter than the SuperBumper unit. The SuperBumper uses patented rubber springs to absorb an impact. WeatherTech uses injection molded resins, while SuperBumper is purely powder coated steel.

Thankfully, no injuries. Just my 2-yr old screaming when I stepped out to assess the damage and exchange information. I carry an accident handbook in all our cars (courtesy from the California Hwy Patrol) that contains information to look for during an accident. It makes the process much more efficient and complete.

Thanks in advance for posting some photos. I wasn't familiar with the SuperBumper, and while probably a good idea, IMHO from the web site pictures, it sure looks as if it will spoil the appearance of the RX. I guess in appearance vs safety our logic should prevail.......right?

I thought the bumper shield/whiplash cover was less prominent, and looked much better, than the round metal bar. It does not have a step, which we do not need.

Ouch! Hope everyone was ok.

I opted for the SpareBumper and paid $166 (includes shipping).

Check out superbumper.com for more details.

That's not a bad option either if you're concerned about aesthetics. I decided to go with the sparebumper for wider coverage - 24" vs. 16"

Aren't these hitch type bumper protectors with a little spring to them just taking away the bumpers ability to crumple and not cause so much shock to the occupants?

I don't know about the superbumper. It seems like it could be dangerous to have on your car. What if someone hitting you from behind rides up over the bumper of your car instead of hitting the bumper. Rear seat occupants could be put into a situation that the car's designers never anticipated.

Not yet. Due to a 4 week backlog at my preferred body shop and a demanding work/life schedule, the vehicle is scheduled for repair work on 5/27. I'll try to install the hitch and the super bumper on the weekend, granted I can have the vehicle back by Friday.

I currently have it installed on my Pilot and my wife loves it! She can't wait to see it on the RX.
