Default Front engine cover leak

This morning when I took our 2013 RX AWD in for 15,000 service I learned that there is a small oil leak around the front cover of the engine. There's been no oil on the garage floor. Covered under warranty (vehicle leased anyway) but they said they have to lower both the engine and trans to get to it. They'll have it for a good day at least it sounds.

I've been sold on Lexus for quite some time but have to wonder about this kind of thing at the 15,000 mile marker. Vehicle is not driven hard at all. At least they caught it but had been considering purchasing this vehicle after the lease expires but might think twice now.

Most likely just a seal/gasket that didn't seat properly in production. They'll fix it and it'll be perfect. These kinds of things can happen in any car, Lexus or otherwise. Personally, I wouldn't worry about the long term prospects of this car. She'll be good to you.

There is a recall notice I received on it. It's a leak from the oil cooler.

Dealer didn't mention anything about this and I've never received a notice regarding this as the original owner. Do you have a recall number or some sort of reference that I could refer to?

Thanks.

correction: it wasn't a recall notice. it was a "warranty extension" notice regarding the oil cooler line leak.

is your problem similar to this? https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...-pictures.html

I got the extended warranty coverage notice for the oil cooler in the mail yesterday. We are covered for, I think, 8 years and 150,000 miles. They provided an adhesive backed page to stick on the inside cover of the warranty and Maintenance book. I have a 2010. Of course it appears when it blows out you have only a few seconds before all your oil is pumped out of the engine and to shut it down to prevent damage....

Here is a large thread on it in the Highlander (same engine, almost a twin) from the Toyota Nation forum. It includes a DIY for those interested.

Some of the V6 engines are having the timing chain cover leak and the solution you mention is how they have to fix it.
