Yes I put mine on when the plate came. It doesn't bother me at all.

I got pulled over here in IL just for having clear plastic covers on my plates.

It's not required in North Carolina, and I'm tempted to leave it off, but my wife, who will be the primary driver of our new RX, has long had an oval, European-style license plate on the front of her Avalon that says, "HB," for Holden Beach where we vacation. All her friends want her to put it on the RX because that's how they recognize her around town. It's her call.

I did some Googling and research, then found this. Ouch.

Yes I do for all our vehicles and I don't see a problem with it.

I got one " fix it" ticket because my license plate cover is bluish plastic.

I know the fine is less than a 100, probably chunk change to most members,
But it's the waste of time to drive to a CHP Officer to show them you " fixed" it that bothers me.

I can't justify a lunch break or an hour of work time just to do this.

No ticket. Just a warning.

My covers were gray plastic but here in Illinois color doesn't matter. No covers of any kind.

At least I got away with them for 15+ years.

No front plate on my 91 MR2 since new, Nov 1990, and none on my 2014 RX350. Its all about the esthetics.

I did get stopped once in the MR2 as the state sent me a truck sticker one year and the officer looked for my front plate but never said anything about it not being there. He verified that my registration was current but the tag was a truck tag and not a car tag. The truck sticker was red while the car tags were brown that year. He said that you might get stopped a lot unless you replace that sticker. It probably helped as I was dressed in a suit and tie and on my way to the office.

Here in FL, technically speaking, clear or tinted covers along with any license plate frame is illegal. I see these so often though that I would venture a guess that the only time you have a problem is when you are being pulled over for some other infraction. No front license plate requirement.

The toll roads in the area use toll-by-plate and a transponder is not a requirement. They just send a bill to the address of vehicle registration. Guess the rule is in place as it may/will interfere with collection.

When i had my wrx and evo, i always got pulled over for no front plate... Then i got a 335 and no plates, no problem. Same thing with the is250. Now the ct came wit brackets, but i took it off as soon as i got home. Im in san diego too so... I guess just depends on the type of car (at least majority of the time)

It looks much better not having a front plate on, but it can also serve as a protective purpose. It's the only reason why I leave mine on, but it's a 2010 RX. I'm not sure how far a plate sticks out on the new spindle grilles because it seems a bit recessed in. I once had a car back up into mine and it dented/scratched my plate instead of my bumper.
