I have a 14 Nebula Grey Pearl and was looking to make it stand out a bit. Wondering if anyone has installed brake caliper covers on their RX? I've seen some different ones online but don't want to go too garish ( I have the 19 inch wheel/tire combo). I'm also looking to do the center bumper with a wrap, been shopping around and think of a matte silver/grey. Got this idea from another thread showing different wraps/PlastiDip's. Any input/pictures would be appreciated. Thanks!

 

What's the purpose of the cover ?
First thing comes to mind when I think brakes is heat transfer. Kinetic energy transformed to heat via the brake hardware.

 

Caliper covers are a no.... Serve no point, look absolutely silly and are the epitome of R.I.C.E.

Understand want to make your Rx stand out from the million plus sitting right next to it, but please proceed in a way that won't cause snickers and giggles from people who know exactly what they are looking at. Suggest going the PlastiDip route but go subtle and you'll be amazed at how little you need to do in order to make your vehicle stand out from one sitting right next to it.

Why not go functional if you want to stand out? Cross bars, push bars, roof rack, tint, change wheel color, change roof rail color... There are a ton of options you can choose from.

Thanks for the input all, didn't think about the heat issue. As far as the bumper, just want to do that piece below the actual grill, was thinking matte silver/pewter to go with the color of the grill slats. I'm going to check out the PlastiDip, at least if I don't like it I can remove.

 

An alternative is labels which can add some flair but be tasteful at the same time. Did it on my IS last year and no issues especially considering this harsh winter we went through.

Did you paint the calipers as well?

 

Caliper label 100% co-sign. Although I did make my brakes a bit bigger on my GS to stand out.

 

I'm definitely liking the Labels. That is something I will check on, maybe when I go in for my 5k, I can have the tech put on if I already have them.

Very cheap and as I mentioned, to my surprise, no peeling and still look like new 8 months later and all the snow and road salt the IS went through. But, I applied them on 100% cleaned calipers - no grease whatsoever. I also added a single light coat of Clear Coat automotive spray paint as "insurance" but most folks who have these decals say it's not necessary. If you get it installed at the dealer, you have to ensure the caliper is perfectly cleaned as this is the most critical step for a long-lasting decal.

 

I prefer this label with my RX350 stock silver caliper.

 

Those would be perfect. Can I ask where you purchased them from? In checking online, the Lexus emblems I found seem too large for the brake calipers on an RX350.

Greased Lightning does a good job of cleaning brake dust/grime off of wheels. I would think it would work nicely on the calipers.

 

non-chlorinated brake cleaner works great! but before using brake cleaner, scrub with some dish soap and hose off. It will remove the bigger particles and any heavier grease/oils that might be on the caliper.
