Japan vs Canada RXs - Have you experienced any squeaks or rattles?

1 Attachment(s)
Sometimes even the best vehicle brands such as Lexus cannot 100% eliminate or prevent squeaks or rattles since there are thousands of parts and materials that make up a vehicle all the while these parts are exposed to varying degrees of harsh environmentals. Would there be any meaningful difference in Japanese vs Canadian-built RXs regarding these irritating noises and what would this represent in terms of build quality?

With that said, please vote and share your experiences below.

RX350 japan, i have minor squeak noise close to center speaker in the dashboard when going thru
city rough roads/potholes, virtually silent all freeways and smooth pavements.

greeknasty 04-07-14 06:04 PM

canada 2014 havent yet heard anything as of 2 weeks owning it. will keep an ear out on it

gerber 04-07-14 07:11 PM

Okinawa, Japan. I own a 2009 RX 450h. Never a peep; always sounds odd when I read complaints of noise.

CanadianRX 04-07-14 08:19 PM

Japan, with a car seat and stroller it's never quiet in my car. I think my sunglasses in the holder make the most amount of noise. Squeaks are overrated but i haven't pinpointed if the noises are from the items in my car or the car itself.

This is my 2nd 3rd-gen RX. Both made in Canada and both have been squeak and rattle free. Having said that, I've only had our 2013 for a little over 4 months and with about 3,500kms on the odo.

The 2010 we had was purchased CPO with 69K kms and we traded up at about 92K kms. That was a silent RX for sure!

kitlz 04-08-14 08:20 AM

At four years old my 450h built in Japan is rattle free. Previous two RXs were also made in Japan. No problems with them either.

JDR76 04-08-14 08:33 AM

6 months and 5000 miles in on my Japanese assembled 2013 RX350, with not even the slightest hint of a squeak or rattle. I am VERY toned in to rattles, so this pleases me to no end. JDR76 is a happy boy. :)

Wish I can say the above. Mine is assembled in Japan. Has a rattle in the upper steering column on certain road
surfaces (not on a dirt road) would give anything to locate it. Also the rattle that's coming from the rear seats (sometimes I imagine it's from the rear hatch). Only 142000Km and it's otherwise in showroom condition.

2010 with 61K km, about 38K miles. Vin Starts with J.
Minor squeak with door stopper on passenger front door, easily addressed last year.
Minor rattle, at times, with cargo cover I believe.
Overall pretty good.

go3Ds 04-08-14 12:43 PM

Previous: Early release 2010 450h, Japan, rattle free! 40,000 miles at trade in.
Current: 2013 450h, Japan build date 04/12, rattle free! Just turned 16,000 miles.
All windows also airtight!

Have had a couple of rattles, but my own fault. Sun visor off its hook slightly, and back shoulder seat belt not resting flush against the seat backrest.

142,000 km! So all things considering, your rattle situation is not too bad considering the relatively high mileage.

It's a remarkable vehicle and it creates the impression that it will easily do a million Km. A rattle you can't lay your finger on, is usually the one that drives you up
the wall and it's only the one in the upper steering column that has that effect on me. It shouldn't be there, can't think how it got there in the first place in a car that's
otherwise treated like it's made from gold.

it's been over a year on this thread, so thought i would bump for an update!

my 2012 rx350 built in canada has a moderate amount of rattles (rear seats over bumpy roads), squeaks/chirps (somewhere in back over bumpy roads), and most annoying of all, ticking in the b-pillar (all kinds of roads, but worst over bumpy roads). too bad because it's a really nice ride otherwise!

there are enough of these types of annoyances that combined with persistently squealing front breaks, i'm thinking about trading it in. is it unrealistic to expect a rattle, squeak, and ticking free 3rd generation rx350 that's a few years old and beyond? does anyone have one that's more than a few years old that doesn't have rattles, squeaks, ticking, or other cabin noises?

JDR76 09-21-15 06:29 AM

I'm at 22k miles on my Japanese built '13 RX now. Still not one single squeak or rattle.

Tom558 09-21-15 12:13 PM

2014 Canadian built that has recently developed a rattle in the driver's door that we hear when the door is closed, that solid door closing sound is gone. We are going to the dealer next week to see what they have to say.

TechNut 09-21-15 06:34 PM

At almost three years and 4700 miles, our Canadian built RX 350 has an occasional ticking in the driver's side B pillar. It isn't there all the time fortunately, but a bit annoying when it is. Our current Japan built ES has a minor buzz under certain road conditions after about 6 months and 5200 miles. Our previous 2004 RX was built in Japan and had a few minor rattles. I can't recall when they began but at 9 years and 27,000 miles, they weren't overly objectionable.

I would argue that most cars will develop rattles or noises sooner or later. I'm not personally convinced there is much difference between Canadian or Japanese built models. I hate the rattles but have just given up on the notion that a modern car is going to be completely rattle free. The last cars that we really chased rattles ended up being even worse after they attempted repairs. Unless it is overly offensive, I am now a bit gun shy about chasing down the rattles.

afpj 09-27-15 07:00 AM

90k miles on our 2010 rx350 Japan built. Only rattle is glovebox latch mechanism. Thought it was one of those B pillar issues until I finally sat in passenger seat with someone else driving. Funny how sound bounces in a car.

seanlin 09-27-15 11:46 AM

Our 2013 RX450h (made in Japan) have 2 rattles (glove box & somewhere in driver door). Lease returned.

2015 RX450h (made in Canada) no rattle so far at 500 miles.

Mors 09-28-15 02:39 PM

2015 RX 450h that i've had for 16 months (5500 miles). No rattles. Made in Japan of course (as all hybrids were at that time).

dctex99 09-29-15 05:57 PM

So, we went t the dealer today about the driver's door and steering wheel squeak. The door rattle ended up being a water bottle in the door storage area  :egads: and the steering wheel was lubricated as it was not squeaking today. Glad there was nothing serious wrong and that all is well with our RX but we both feel kind of silly.

The good news is we had all three wiper refills replaced for $25.00 including labor.

rxonmymind 10-01-15 11:28 PM

While I don't have a third gen I do have a 2009 that was built in Canada. Not a squeak. Very happy as I love my audio.
