Default 2012 RX350 cracked clear screen in dash

Did a dumb thing yesterday. My Android P.O.S. phone was acting up just when I needed it, so I tossed it up on the dash in front of the NAV screen, and sure enough, it was with just enough velocity to crack the clear plastic lens in front of the nav screen.

I know it's probably a 10 dollar part, and 4 hours worth of dash removal and reinstallation.
Short of adding the vehicle to my alldatadiy account, where might one get information on proper dash removal, and does anyone know if that lens is an orderable part, or if it is integral to the dash piece? (hope not)

Thx

Not sure but I think (read it on these forums somewhere) that the nav screen cant be replaced. You must replace the whole nav system. Sounds like a big ticket item.

Right - my RX has a scratched plastic, and I was told by the dealer plastic alone cannot be replaced. I wonder if a good alarm/stereo install shop may be able to do something. Removal time was quoted as 1-2 hours.

FWIW, the screen on my 5 series is starting to cloud after about 10 years of use. The replacement unit is a combination of the screen housing, clear plastic over, and the LCD screen itself. You would think that most other car makers would separate the computer from the display hardware especially if some of the more common issues like burnt out pixels started to occur.

Can't tell if this is the case or not from the photo, but the box behind the screen doesn't look too large in this photo, so the part you need may just include the screen itself and the plastic cover housing. Granted, that is an expensive replacement for just the clear plastic.

Perhaps you could buy a whole unit as the one listed above and then try and sell just your screen to make back some of the difference - there must be some people out there who are getting outside of the warranty period with a few dead pixels.

Thumbs up

Well, there are 3 generations of the RX, and this one is the newest, or third generation. The piece in question is a stand alone finish trim part, which I have already ordered (about $60) and just clips in. So, trim removal tools to extract the cracked one, and snap in the new.
I'll post some pix as I do it in case someone else needs this info in the future.

Now I'm a bit miffed. Just received the replacement part, and lo and behold, this is just the trim ring. No clear lens on it. Looking at the black and white drawings, you could draw either conclusion as to whether the lens would be integral to the trim ring, which is what I assumed. I cannot find any reference drawing, or part wise to the clear lens on any of South Atlanta's exploded diagrams.
So I need someone who really knows about this (read service professional) to advise if that clear lens (inches forward of the Nav Screen) is replaceable, and whether it's integral to the dash itself. I am pretty far from my Lexus dealership so this info would help prior to getting them involved. M1964, can you be a bit more specific about your experience, and are we talking about the same part? Clear plastic lens in front of the Nav Screen.
Thanks.

I would just call a Lexus parts department. My local dealership has been able to quickly find the parts that I have needed over the phone and they have been happy to give me the part numbers/prices over the phone.
