Default TRANSMISSION COOLER for TRAILERING

Hi Guy's.
I own a 2012 RX 350 unfortunately without a tow prep package. I am interested in being able to pull a utility type trailer with a gross weight of about 2,000 lbs. I would be used once or twice a month for about a 200 mi. trip, and once a year for about a 2,000 mi trip. I know it is easy enough to install a trailer hitch and necessary wiring. I am however, concerned that I don't have a transmission cooler. Will I do any damage to the transmission without one? Are they prohibitively expensive to have one installed? Is are there any good after market coolers I should consider?

Your thought would be greatly appreciated.

Why not install a transmission temperature gauge first. Pull your trailer around and see if the transmission temp gets too hot. I would want a gage regardless, and if the temp stays low, you won't need to spend the $ on a cooler.

There are a lot of selections and they are pretty easy to install. Check out Summit Racing http://www.summitracing.com/search?S...rature%20gauge

Also, here is a link to transmission coolers (generic add-on style) http://www.summitracing.com/search/m...ssion%20cooler

If I'm not mistaken the RX is rated for towing a 2000lb trailer WITHOUT a towing package. The towing package bumps it up to 3500.
If you're not in Death Valley you should be fine.

If you're going to be making tow hauls once or twice a month, go and have one installed. They are not expensive and any potential damage is going to be way more expensive in repairs.

Not worth taking the risk of nearing the max tow weight without a tow package to save a couple hundred bucks.
