Yes you need to have an Audio Control unit to intergate the after market speakers and amps to the factory stereo and yes it will let you use the factory steering wheel controls. You can also install this http://www.crutchfield.com/S-dDKc5SU...rol-ACR-1.html if you want to control the bass separate.

I believe the factory speakers are made by Pioneer , they have TS model on them and most of Pioneer speakers are TS model. The factory speakers are not that bad, i am surprised that the materials are some kind of plastic or rubber and not paper like most of the factory have. Yes the sound quality is much better than the factory ones. If you plan of upgrading the component speakers , then you need to use the after market amps too., please dont use the factory amp because it doesn't have enough power to work with the component speakers and it will damage the speakers if the amp's rate power is less than the speaker ones.

as I understand, Lexus Premium audio was always with Pioneer with the exception of Nakamichi and Mark Levinson for their own branded items. And based on my recollection, Nakamichi and Levinson were never in the business of making speakers. Nak's were in the business of making cassette tape players - best in the business but Millennials don't even know what that is....... and ML was an amplifier maker (I would know. I had one). Really high fidelity audiophile stuff. Expensive but not crazy expensive. amps went for something in the $0000 category instead of $00000 category.

Does anyone know the volume of the stock subwoofer enclosure (non-ML)? It would be nice to be able to install an aftermarket sub in the stock enclosure (w/aftermarket amp).

Is there an easy way to simply swap the speakers instead of the whole crossover and control module things to improve the sound?I think I have the biggest problem with 1) no high frequency sound coming through and 2) too much mid bass just muddying up all male voices.

is just me or my rx ... as I shift the balance from front to back on 450H, the brilliance in sound becomes dull the ambient volume gets lowered. Maybe the rear amp is not functioning.

Is there a quick way to figure out what system I have. I can't tell if I have the 11 speaker non ML version or the 9 speaker basic version.

The base system is 9 speaker, premium 12 and then ML.
