It's all personal preference.
Lexus Hybrid Drive is not a typical CVT. We discussed it more in detail here.
One of electrical motors is directly linked to the driving wheels at a fixed ratio. Second electric motor works as a variation device to control the engine sandwiched between the two in a planetary gear set. Neither DSG nor 8-Speeds are viable with Toyota's Hybrid technology, as the second motor replaces the need for a traditional transmission.
The AWD models also get a 3rd electric motor, again directly linked to the rear wheels with no gears to change, clutches to engage or center differential to transfer torque between front and rear.

There's only one Toyota vehicle I know of that uses SMG, and that is the Lexus LFA.
Toyota does not like the use of SMG or DSG transmissions due to their harshness at low speeds. That's why the IS-F has a vanilla-flavor auto with a torque-converter.

Thanks for the insight, unfortunately we couldn't get used to the combination in our time with the car. Perhaps more time behind the wheel is needed.

^^ The CVT is one of the nice aspects of the 450h ... quiet, smooth, unobtrusive. I liked the concept so much, I went with the CVT in my Subaru Outback also.
