Had the same problem when with voice command I entered the address, it would not recognise it if I added Canada, but if I said Ontario all was OK if I did not and said Toronto only it would take me to California. Oh the joys of technology !

Somewhere in settings, you need to set the region that you live in. As far as it's concerned, there are multiple regions within the US.
​​​​​​​Once you fix that, you can find out how truly ineffective the whole system really is! LoL!!
