Default Dunlop Tire on new RX 450h

Our new 2013 RX 450h came with Dunlop tires. Although I do not do much bad weather driving if I can avoid it (I walk to work ), still, I am concerned about the tires that came on our car. It seems that everyone prefers Michelin or Bridgestone. Why would Lexus use inferior tires?

I have ordered two RX’s an 2005 RX 330 and a 2011 RX 450h you can pick almost any options that you want when you do it that way but you still cannot pick what tires you will get on the car when they ship it to you. Back when the 2005 were out the crap tire was the Goodyear eagle and now with the new RX you get the Dunlops. I have them on my 450 now and they need replacement because they are so loud now at 25k miles. I would pay more for the car on the front end and get the tires that I would want than have to good through all of this. I will be putting a set of Michelin on the car this spring before we go to Orlando (8-hour drive) from here.

I have the Dunlops on my 450h. You don't have to worry about safety or general performance with the Dunlops. They are not a hazard. But, their noise level and ride quality is inferior to the other tires. The problem is that the 450h would be nicer with a better set of tires.

What? Somebody actually prefers Bridgestone? Wow. I can't wait to get rid of mine.

Here is a little more info that better defines the problem:

Bridgestone's newest tire seems to be pretty good ... it's not the one that is used currently on the RX.

I recently got a '12 350 here in Honolulu and it came with Dunlop.

I haven't purchased a Lexus since 2002 and back then I thought it was Bridgstone.

Like others have said, the Dunlops are fine. They served me well through at least one bad winter. It was mild last year. But they wore out quickly and had to be replaced within two years. I have since switched them out to the Pirellis. It's something I've done on all of the RXs so par for the course. The way I look at it is it gives me the opportunity to research what's out there and make the best selection based on my needs.

Interesting chart UCSB provided. Shows Dunlop's way down the list. I recently bought a 2010 CPO RX450H. Love the car, ride, comfort etc. Dunlop's. Although rides fine, wear seems excessive as they only had 11,600 miles on them (got lucky with mileage on this CPO). So rating of low treadwear on the chart i can believe. Seem to ride fine, but will defintely not replace with Dunlop's. Hoping to go thru summer with the Dunlop's but may break down and replace with something better. Gets confusing the more reviews i read from folks. COntinental's the best..........no, Pirelli's..........Bridgestone.......only Michelin etc etc. I have Michelin's on our Acura and they're fine. 12,000 miles and little treadwear. Sportier car (TSX) and ride obviously not as good but good tire overall. Bridgestone Dueler H/L 422 Ecopia's review nice. Comfort and noise high priority.....along with other issues. Time will tell..... But won't be Dunlops'
