Question 2013 -Can you lock the doors while power rear door closing without pressing key fob?

Has anyone figured out how to get the car to lock its doors while the rear hatch is closing without pulling out the key fob remote and pressing the lock button? It only seems to work this latter way and if this is the intended functionality, is this the new improvement from the 2010-2012 model years as referred to below? This did not exist prior to 2013? Tried the button on the hatch and does nothing (while it's closing). Sliding over the front door handle lock indentation gives me me a long loud beep without locking the doors. Would be nice to lock the car without pulling out the fob... maybe a setting somewhere?

Power Back Door System
2. MAJOR DIFFERENCE
(a) The 2013 models have been modified from the 2012 models as shown below:
(1) The door lock request can be accepted and reserved while the back door is closing, improving usability of door lock operation.

After the hatch closes, press the round bump to the right of the flat sensor on the hatch. You may have to have this programmed.

Thanks for the response. It has always worked AFTER the rear door closes when pressing the round rubber button. Wondering if someone got it to work (lock request accepted) when pressing the round button (or front door handle lock indentation) while the hatch is closing. Maybe Lexus can program this? Can't seem to find it in the manual. Lexus seems to have made an explicit statement that this is a new feature in 2013 that the lock request can be accepted while the door is closing - why would be limited to the key fob? I know it's 5-6 seconds more to have to wait for the rear door to close which is not much but when the rain hits hard or it's freezing cold, every second counts.

I doubt its programable. It just gives a steady beep if you try to lock it with the rear hatch in motion.

Is this feature working for anyone with a '13? I was excited when I read about that feature, I wonder if it did get added.

I am not able to touch the handle to lock the doors while the back door is closing down. I can, however, using the fob to look the door while the back door is in closing motion. The later is a new improvement over older model I believe.

I am interested to know if I can look the door by touching the handle while the back door is closing.

Yeah on the older cars we have to wait for the thing to close completely

Or, the hatch can be closed manually - if in a hurry, or if the weather is bad, use the old fashion method. Then lock the doors with the fob.

Agree that the newer models having the simultaneous locking feature are an improvement.

Default Got the official answer from Lexus - Lock retention is limited to key fob

Just in. Got the official answer from Lexus regarding the new for 2013 lock request retention while the hatch is power closing. See pic attached (ignore bottom box, that's for my other thread on the HUD vs Speedometer accuracy).

In summary, what we can do with the 2013:

- We can lock the car doors while the power hatch is closing provided its engaged from the lock button on the KEY FOB.
- On the flip side, we CANNOT via the rubber **** on the hatch or the lock indentation in the front door handles.

Oh well, was hoping there was a way to lock it from any lock input method. I'll just have to manually close the hatch, then press the rubber **** when I'm in a hurry. At least we have closure on this functionality.

That's kind of a disappointment. I don't see why it should matter where the lock request is coming from, OH WELL!

Interesting info on the HUD. That would explain the slight difference in read out between it and the speedo.

Why can't Lexus put a lock button next to the rear hatch button like Mercedes so that everything locks with one button? its So annoying to have to wait for the rear hatch to come down and then run to the door to lock it....arrrggg

There is a button there, you don't have to go to the doors, but you have to wait until the hatch is closed to use it.

Well, its on my 2010, I assumed they kept it for later models too. Just to the right of the big flat open/release button is a tiny little round bump, that button locks and unlocks the doors.
