Default Ruling on Oil Changes

I don't drive that much and have a hard time putting enough miles on my 2012 RX 350 for the free oil changes.
Lexus was nice enough to wait 8 months and do the 5,000 miles for my 1st. inspection, but now I'm coming up on 12 months and have only 7,000 miles on my RX 350.

Will Lexus still honor the free 10,000 mile oil change if I bring it back into the dealership after 14 or 15 months?

Cheers!

I can't speak for the dealer but I would change the oil at least once per year whether it hit the required mileage or not. Based on your low mileage, I am assuming your engine probably doesn't get warm enough to burn off the moisture (some of which will be in your engine oil).

Lexus will honor the 10k oil change for 18 months. I don't put that many miles on either. I did however change the oil and filter at 2500 miles. It has been one year and 9k since my last oil change. I am going to get it done once a year. Don't think you should go more than a year.

You should give your dealership a call and ask them. I thought my dealership told me that the free 10k was basically a one year offer. I drive five cars and this means that they are all low mileage. I just take them in once a year for an oil change regardless of mileage (usually < 3k). I have an appointment tomorrow for a car with 10k oil change interval, but I only put on 2,800 in last year.

I did pull the oil and filter myself at 2500 miles and had Lexus do the 5000 miles checkup.

Now I'll let them pull the oil at 10,000 or whenever that happens.

I really haven't decided if I'll continue doing my own oil and filter changes, but
sure saves me some $$$$.

I can take that savings and have the tires rotated at garage of my choosing.

Which brings up a point when servicing @ a Lexus service center.
I found that when you come to trade, they like to see a service paper trail by Lexus in order for you
to get top trade-in value.
I soon found that out when traded my 2000 RX300 and did my own oil changes.

Went today for my oil and filter change. The associate said you should change the oil at least yearly if you don't have the mileage. Makes sense to me. The charges weren't that bad and I do recall the sales manager stating that they do give more value at trade in time for a car that has been serviced by Lexus. Documentation of service. Always gives me a chance to check out the new models anyway.

PS. Lexus policy is 10k or 18 months on the first oil change.

We try to average not over 1k miles a month on our RX. My wife is retiring soon so that will probably go out the window. LOL

If you get scheduled maintenance at a Toyota store, It's a fraction of the price and still winds up in the Lexus data base online. All of my oil changes, tire rotations, brake flush etc. are there when I check.

I just had my third oil change done even though I only have 21K on the RXh, now almost three years old. I go by the time recommendation. I did the same with my 300 and 330. Both were sold CPO at five and six years of age respectively.

Glad to know I'm not the only one who doesn't rack up the miles! I just have it changed yearly. My car is 2 1/4 years old and has just under 14,000 miles. The 15,000 mile check up was done long time ago!
