Just register with Sewell to get their discount. I paid somewhere around $60 for the kit. I'm rethinking removing the rails after the freaky snowstorm last month.

Hmmm. I might just remove mine too. It's an added weight to the car plus it hinders air flow up the roof.

The wife nixed the idea. She like the looks of the roof racks.

Roof Rack

I took mine off right after I bought it. Sold it on eBay and made my second car payment.

I have never seen and RX without the roof rack. Would someone who had done this please post a few photos? Thanks!

I removed mine a couple of months ago. It doesnt take very long and it looks better with out.

Cruiter, I have to say that I like the look of the RX without the roof rack. What does the roof look like where the rack was removed. Our RX is silver and the rails are silver as well, so it really does not look bad. I doubt that the boss would even consider allowing me to take the rack off.

If you look in my garage on my profile, I too have pictures posted without the rack.

Ok, got the correct kit from Sewell, time to try again...
What about sealing the bolt holes - anybody putting any RTV or waterproof grease in there prior to installing the retaining clips?

Alex

All the parts are self sealing. There should be a gasket on the bottom of the bracket and rubber washers on the bolts. That's all you need.

AlexB 11-19-11 05:14 AM

Thanks MEP, I hadn't noticed those gaskets.

Funny, this was the first thing I noticed on the showroom floor. I HATED the roof racks! I asked about them and he looked at me like I was the nutty one :) They would be coming off immediately if I make the purchase.

Prob get 1 MPH better without all that drag :)

CapeDave 11-21-11 08:17 PM

I actually meant 1 MPG better :)

Roof rack plugs

Anyone got a close up picture of how the plugs look with the racks removed?
