Service Contact/Warrany- To Keep or Not?
So, I just bought a 2013 Lexus RX 350- 60,000 miles for $21,195. The service history includes regularly scheduled maintenance up to 40,000mi and then regular oil changes after that. The battery was recently replaced. Cosmetically the car is in near pristine condition with just a couple of minor scratches here and there. It was a one owner vehicle.
At the dealership, I was, what felt, like pressured into buying the "warranty" or service contract. The finance girl put me down for the highest coverage (when I thought I asked for the middle) Anyhow, it was $2400 and I'm honestly a little uncomfortable with having paid that because I don't know if its worth it. In anyone's experience and expertise, is this worth it? I'm considering canceling it, but I'm not sure. Any advice?

Hi.
Welcome to the forum.
Congratulations on your purchase!
Is this an aftermarket warranty or one from Lexus?
An L/Certified car can be no older than 6 years and must have less than 70,000 miles. Is your car L/Certified?
For the $2400, how much warranty did u get in terms for mileage and years?
Some additional information would be helpful.

Long chain , so not sure if anybody already replied -- you can get extended warranty at several hundred or thousand dollars less if you buy from Troy Dietrich . I have purchased one for my Camry years back and just asked for a quote for my Lexus

My $.02 - We are picking up a 2015 RX 350 (42,000 miles) this afternoon. The car is lexus certified (2 years, unlimited mileage) and we are adding an additional two years, unlimited miles for $2,900. We were originally quoted $3,300 for the warranty. My wife drives 15k-20k miles per year so this warranty will inevitably par for itself over the next four years. Additionally, it is transferable so if we decide to move on before the 4 years is up, it will be great for resale. For what it is worth, I have this warrenty on my ES350 and have already used it for door lock actuators on all four doors. I have 3+ years left and it has nearly paid for itself already.

Hello!
Is this a Lexus factory extended warranty? If it is, I got a 5 year extended unlimited miles one for our 2015 RX350 for about $3000.
So with the 2 year which comes with the car, I have a total of 7 years unlimited miles.
Maybe you can get a better price or get a longer term on your warranty.
Good luck!

Wow. If it is the same, that is an incredible deal you got. This is the "Platinum Lexus Extended Warranty". Covers all mechanical and electrical (no belts, liquids or tires). The pricing guide showed a cost of $3,300 so I thought getting them to $2,900 was good. Also, the warranty on my ES was about $3k for four years unlimited mileage but that car had much lower mileage when I bought it. What was the mileage on yours at purchase? Thanks for the insight. Heading to the dealer in two hours...

Been driving since 1969, I DIY my own maintenance and repairs after any factory warranties expire, and have never purchased an extended warranty. I keep a rolling $2,500 to $3,000 in a money market account which is used to cover any needed repairs on any of our vehicles (we currently own four) whenever they need attention. This strategy has always proven to be far more economical than dropping thousands of dollars on an extended warranty that may never be needed.

The offering company [hopefully it is Lexus of USA] also considers the possibilities of accidents (totaled) , resale etc as these events terminates the contract without incurring additional expense (from the insurer).
So make sure you plan to keep the vehicle that long.

No extended warranties for me on any product except for my new 4K TV from Costco as it was only C$99 for an extra three years for a total of five year warranty.
We say lease a German and buy Japanese for a reason and I tend to side with those who will "self-insure" for major repairs. Most expensive repair so far for me is replacing the starter at C$600 two years after I purchased the CPO.
Edit: About four years in and 100K km later, left front shock is leaking; front passenger wheel bearing needs replacing and four rotors and pads. About C$3K through dealer for all. Maybe an extra warranty would have been good after all.:-)

So we recently bought a new 2019 Honda Odyssey Elite in addition to our 14 RX 350. Just found out Geico offers their own version of extended warranty. It's called mechanical breakdown insurance. I think this is a much better option and wish I had gotten it for the Lexus. It's $27 every 6 months for the Odyssey with a $250 deductible each time. I can add this to the policy before 15 months, or 15,000 miles. It will cover until your car is 7 years old or 100,000 miles. So the max amount if your car never have an issue for the duration of the coverage is $378 over 7 years instead of paying 2 to 3000 upfront plus interest if you finance. I will have to have 7 claims before spending more than the $2000 Honda was going to charge me for their 10 years 75,000 extended warranty(who drives 75,000 miles in 10 years anyway?). From what I research online, seems like it is a easy claim according to other car forum people posted about this. I wish I knew about this when I bought the RX 350.

Sounds good
But just wanted to make sure you are comparing apples to apples. Sometimes the insurance company make the premium so low, but does not cover much (meaning low risks for them).
Things to consider........
1. 1.You got a $250 deductible EACH visit (or item).
Lexus CPO (and Platinum Extended Warranty) got ZERO deductible and is UNLIMITED MILEAGE WARRANTY for the duration.
2. Is yours just "power train" coverage only? IDK?
Lexus CPO (and Platinum Extended Warranty) got coverage essentially everything with few exceptions.
Questions:. If the NAVI goes out does yours cover it? How about if the AC goes out?

It pretty much covers everything other then wear and tear. It includes electronic.
