Mine took only a half our to put on. Use alcohol to clean the area that you are putting them on. It really is very easy and to charge any more than $25 is a rip off.

Tip the body shop guy $20 to put them on for me. The Toyota dealership wanted $150 .

Just installed Body Side Moldings and Mudguards. Both purchased from Sewell at CL discount.
Have a look!

What happens if an adjacent car door bumps the door side molding? Does it then leave a dent or result in paint loss to the sacrificial molding?

I personally don't know but I would imagine it's better then a dent or worse to the sacrificial side.

As I've read in other threads, for the 2010+ version, they are black plastic under the matching paint color. You'll basically sacrifice a dent or chip to the moulding (assuming of course that's where the @&$$;(/ 's door clobbers you).

My older RX400h has moldings that came standard with the vehicle unlike recent model years. I've had two places where others have dinged the sides of my cars -- both to the moulding... No effect to the rest of the car, and I touched up the places with matching touch up paint. At a distance, most people wouldn't see it. Me, well, I know where every imperfection is.

...they way I look at my 2012 side moldings is that they are effective because the doors are almost straight down (no curving) so the moldings will do their job of preventing a dent.
I am very handy when it comes to spray painting and with the proper masking it will be pretty easy for me to fix any "dents" on the molding and paint them over.....

What is the difference between adding the door edge guards and the molding?

Look closely at the pictures on the Sewell site or others around here.

- Door edge guards are just that -- U-shaped color matched strips that fit vertically on each door edge and protect them from chips (as well as what you may smash your door into) when you open the door yourself.

- Moldings are generally how we refer to the horizontal strips that run across both doors and are there to help prevent direct damage to your doors when someone smashes their door into you.

I just installed the body side moldings and as long as you follow the instructions it comes out perfectly. I'm in my late '60s so I was a little sore the next morning between the moldings and mud guard installation. Aleve came to the rescue.
