My wife purchased her 2011 CPO RX350 in August, 2013. It was placed in service February 2011.The CPO warranty expires in August of this year. My wife puts about 10,000 miles a year on her car. I've called the dealers mentioned in this thread. While the car is still covered by the CPO warranty it is no longer covered by the original new car factory warranty.

I've called both Lexus of Shreveport and Toyota of Greenfield, MA however neither could help me because of this.

A local dealer is selling a third party warranty through Total Warranty Services. It covers an additional 5 years and 60,000 miles for $3988. They're about 45 minutes away, however they will pay the $100 deductible and provide valet service.

I also contacted Warranty Direct. They have a five year, 100,000 total mile (50,000 additional miles) warranty for about $3200 with $100 deductible.

Does anyone know anything about Total Warranty Services or Warranty Direct? Anybody have any suggestions?

That's insane! Try getting one through your bank. It's way cheaper. If you can get something for under $1500 you will likely break even considering the age and mileage of the vehicle. Anything more is a total loss. I once had to actually refinance my car through the bank to get the warranty. I got a low rate, but warranty was $1200. I was obligated to pay three payments, before paying it off, so it's exactly what I did. It was well worth it though, because the car in question was a Bimmer and thought very reliable so far, it gives me peace of mind for a while longer. One repair on that one and I'll more than cash in. A Lexus may still be a loss of good money spent on warranty.

I will look into this. What's driving this was the need to replace the driver's seat. If we weren't under warranty it would have cost $5500.

We bought the warranty on my wife's 2007 Toyota Avalon, due to it being our first car with the passive key fob (and all the sensors), self-leveling HID lights, etc. Bought it, at a discount, from a dealer in Kansas City, think I paid $6xx. Sold the car, to the day, seven years later, ZERO claims.

Bought the extended warranty for my daughter's 2010 Corolla - same deal. 105k miles and never made a claim.

And that is why I can't bring myself two own more than one BMW at a time and it had better be on the higher end of their reliability scale! I have however generally "cashed in" on my Lexus extended warranties. In 03, when we purchased our 99 GS400, we lost a starter and later two HVAC servos that far exceeded the $1200 warranty cost. We had other smaller issue too, but not as bad. My 03 GX had a punch list of things that wouldn't have been covered normally, but that car had the CPO warranty, so all were covered. Navi, HVAC, air suspension, console, rear AC coil, etc, etc, all went out between 60 and 75k miles. Extra cost for CPO...tough to tell, but usually 15 to 2k, but the math gets real fuzzy in negotiations.

My advice would be to buy a full comprehensive extended warranty or none at all for the RX.

I say this because the RX has a very solid drive-train so you more than likely may just end up wasting your money buying a drive-train only warranty which do not cover anything not "inside" the engine or transmission like hoses, alternators,brake boosters,etc.

However, any car have a leaky hose(transmission,oil cooler,etc) or faulty accessory like the alternator so a full comprehensive warranty would cover items like that as well as heated/cooled seats,navigation radio,etc.

So my point is to buy a full comprehensive extended warranty or none at all for the RX since the RX engine/transmission usually will out live most power-train warranty coverage.

Hence my post about full comprehensive extended warranties.

Most extended warranties are really just power-train only warranties that do not cover anything outside of the engine/transmission.

I learned that lesson the hard way, so now I buy only full comprehensive warranties on used cars even if the car has some factory power-train only coverage since most of the non-power-train issues can cost as much as replacing an engine especially on German cars.
